Alli - NET

Thought we deserved more out of the game, certainly should have had at least one point. However, I think that has a bit to do with how poor United were, not so much with how great we were. That being said, when I saw the XIs I was thinking another 2-0 or 3-0 loss, so I'm somewhat impressed with how we did.

Toby MOTM for me...
Walker a close second. The own goal wasn't his fault, he did really well in defense (especially in 1v1s with Young), and should have been used more often going forward.
Dier also very much impressed after looking a bit shaky at DM in preseason.

Dembele pressed more than eriksen & chadli combined, dont think hes as effective stuck out on the right tho.

Davies offers absolutley no outlet attacking wise

Toby plays too many long balls for me, but maybe he wasnt helped by 2 cms who cant play out from deep.

Vorm 6 - Nothing really to do, perhaps the goal could have been better communication. Nice stop on a Young shot.

Walker 7 - he actually did well for the OG in all honesty. Sounds crazy, but he covered for both Bentaleb and Toby. Would we have given him MOTM if he just watches Rooney tap in? Solid all day long.
Alderweireld 7 - Some Dawson-esque long balls, but a very un-Dawson like aggressive, technical CB play. Good stuff.
Vertonghen 6 - Didn't really notice him. I think he lacks pace and isn't really that strong aerially. 6/10 player usually.
Davies 6 - Did well for who he is but we missed Rose. Doesn't have the pace or energy.

Dier 6 - Good defensively. -27 to Levy for letting us start the season with a CB as our midfield option.
Bentaleb 3 - Telegraphed the pass to Mata, looked timid. I hope he improves.

Dembele 5 - not a winger. Did very little.
Eriksen 5 - should have scored. Always looks most dangerous, but doesn't create much. Riding too much on looking good rather than actually playing well.
Chadli 4 - Slow brain, slow feet, not much else.

Kane 5 - Should have squared to Chadli instead of shooting. Pretty starved of service. He looks good though, especially aerially.

Lamela 6 - Decent. People love to criticize him.
Mason 6 - also decent, but not great. Held his own against Schneiderlin/Schweinsteiger.
Alli - hope to see more of him. Couldn't have been worse than Bentaleb or Dier.

Excellent: Toby, Dier (not his actual play but how he did what he was asked to do - he's not a DM abut you could see he did everything asked of him), Walker, fans (in the stadium)
Good: Verts, Vorm, Davies, Dembele, Poch
Average: Eriksen, Kane, Mason, Lamela, Alli
Poor: Chadli, Bentaleb
Awful: fans on Spurs community - hilariously over the top

At least we seem to have sorted the defence! Bring on a few attacking signings.

Not really, own goals are not intentional and thus don't really factor into a rating.
I would say Bentalabs misplaced pass to Mata wasn't intentional ether but would certainly count towards his rating. Anyway, I'm not suggesting Walker wasn't good, just that the team as a whole were pretty drab.

In hindsight carroll should of started in cm, it wasnt a physical game and there was so much space in midfield which would of suited him and he would of probably got us ticking a bit more. Bentelab and dier were never going to put united under pressure with thier passing

I thought we generally played well but for our customary mistake that always seems to be punished.

We are clearly in need of more raw pace going forward or just need to play quicker from back to front.

Vorm 7 played well not much to do his kicking was very good

Walker 6 unlucky with the own goal, kept cheating Young at bay however there was a mistake in his game.

Alderweireld 8 I was very impressed. I watched him carefully and he certainly can defend positionally good too.

Vertonghen 6. Ok

Davies 6 defended well.

Dier 7 impressive imo

Bentaleb 4 very poor game never woke up and gave the ball away that ended up costing us the defeat.

Chadli 6 floated in between the lines again just OK

Dembele 5 I wasn't impressed with his contribution could not work out what he brang.

Eriksen 6 ok but should of scored

Kane 6 Was falling down to much, a bit greedy shooting when the square ball for Chadli was on...but before that he dinked a superb assist for Eriksen who should of scored

Subs
Mason 7 we looked a much better team with Mason in the team, our play going forward was also noticeably quicker...a must imo in the team

Lamela 6 pressed well when he came on. I prefer him to Dembele on the right.

Pochettinho 6 possession football good and the bedding in fundamentals of our general play is good for the future but we need more pace going for goal a process I feel he realise needs address....defensively weve looked to improve but for individual errors.

Vorm - 7 - Distribution was pretty good, not a lot to do.
Walker - 8 - Good performance from a player trying to prove his worth.
Alderweireld - 8 - Great competitive debut, love the fact he can pass the ball.
Verts - 7.5 - Soild.
Davies - 6.5 - Not a great performance but not shambolic.
Dier - 7 - Played well considering he's out of his comfort zone
Bentaleb - 3 - Cost us the goal, his passing throughout was criminal.
Dembele - 7 - Steady, not much of a threat but kept possession well enough.
Chadli - 5 - Not a great day, wasted 2 or 3 opportunities, didn't do enough defensively either.
Eriksen - 6 - I'm worried about his ability to fight for the game when we're up against it.
Kane - 6.5 - Played a nice chipped pass to set up Eriksen early on, looked lively but was caught in a possession once or twice.

Mason - 6 - Poor passing, seemed to leave his first touch in the dressing room for the first 10 minutes. Won a couple of free-kicks and got better as the second half wore on.
Alli - 6 - Did nothing wrong but didn't provide anything of note.
Lamela - 6 - Worked hard off the ball.

Vorm: 6. Did everything he was supposed to. Didn't commit any major preventable errors. The main thing is he didn't cause us to miss Lloris too much.

Walker: 7.5 The own goal was his only blight, but it wasn't his fault of course. If he hadn't been there, Rooney would've scored anyway. Walker did well going forward, was active, and showed a lot of desire.

Toby: 8. That rating might even be a tad low for him today. He defended well, especially for it to be his team debut at Old Trafford. Also loved his passing.

Verts: 6.5 Seen better days. He wasn't terrible today, but he had a couple of silly fouls, one of which could've been costly.

Davies: 7 Performed admirably, considering most of us would've preferred Rose to play today. Can't pinpoint any of his great moments, but there were several times I would ask "Who did that?" in regards to a defensive play or nice pass and he was the one who did it.

Bentaleb: 3 Surely the worst game he's ever played for our senior team. Multiple dumb giveaways, including the one leading to the goal. Worrying since he gifted Madrid a goal in the same manner in that friendly Tuesday.

Dier: 6. Who would've guessed Dier would've been the higher rated midfielder today? Did what was asked of him at a difficult ground to play at and in a position he is still learning to play.

Dembele: 5 I'm not sure where Dembele should play in our formation, but it's not where he played today. It's not that he played badly, but he just wasn't effective. We are just so stagnant up front so often. Levy, PLEASE bring in a couple of new forwards.

Eriksen: 6 some good moments, especially the shot attempt off the knock-down after the pass from Kane in the first few minutes. Wish he could've supplied some of that trademarked Eriksen magic in the final minutes today.

Chadli: 5. Too quiet and anonymous for too much of the match.

Kane: 6.5 Worked hard. Not much else to say.

Lamela, Mason, Alli: Lamela was meh, Mason or Alli should've come on for Bentaleb at halftime. Both did well enough in their appearances.

Alderweireld best of the bunch today, couldn't be bothered with the rest of the ratings although thought Dier did well in there, but we showed a real lack of creativity in the middle of the park for too long.

Bit overly harsh on Bentaleb for one critically poor pass IMO. Losing at United away first game with not many additions involved is promising enough. Early doors etc.

With Toby starting so well, interested to see who else plays as the season progresses. Took to it like a duck to water, so comfortable and classy today.

Bentaleb was awful. We looked instantly better once he was replaced by Mason. I'd start Mason next game next to Dier or Alli .. Or a new, proper, established CM (wishful thinking)
