The only way I'd see him moving is if someone offered to better his wages, which lets face it, they won't.
All this talk about 'we should accept 12m from one of the bottom teams' is pointless as he's got to agree to the move, and why would he move when he's on £90kpw and getting regular games in a World Cup year.

Unfortunately, you're bang on. I would love to get rid of him but it's just not going to happen unless we agree to not only take a massive loss on the transfer fee but also agree to pay the vast majority of his wages for the next few years. In which case we may as well just keep him around to make up the numbers when needed. It's not ideal but we've snookered ourselves completely with this one I'm afraid.

Add in the fact it would have to be to a club that he wants to go to.
Never gonna happen.

Or we could say to him you either take X deal or it’s off to the under 21s you go.

That holds more weight this month as it’s WC year, though.

Highly unlikely to work I would imagine. Even with the WC situation. He's 28 and not even half way through the biggest contract of his career. This was his last chance at a big contract, and he's done well for himself, and by the time this one expires he'll be 31. If the 90k-ish he's rumoured to be on is true, then he's got almost 15m quid guaranteed left to come just in base salary, let alone all the various incentives, so why would he walk out on all that money? I know I wouldn't in his situation. It's not like he's been earning those kind of wages for years either, it's only happened for him late on so this is his big chance to earn before he retires so he doesn't have to worry about anything for the rest of his life.

Obviously I'm sure he wants to be in the WC squad, but surely not at the expense of securing the financial future for him and his family?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, neither of us know what type of person his is whether he wants regular football or if it’s money he only cares about but it’s worth a shot.

I do take issue with the bold bit, though. I see this line spoken a lot amongst all football fans and, imo, it’s complete bollocks. Most footballers can set them, and their families, up for life after their first pro contract at 18. How many properties do you think Sissoko has? I don’t know but I’d hazard a guess at a fuck load, ignoring how asset rich he is, how much money do you think he has in the bank? A fuck tonne. Shit, £30k pw over 5 years is enough to sort you and your family out unless you’ve got 100 kids.

Now, it could be that he’s just a greedy **** like most people when offered a load of easy money, it’s natural to want as much as you can get but don’t phrase it like you, and others, do as it makes it sound like he hasn’t done that already.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that relative to you or I, he's got more money than he'll even need, I'm sure. But that's just it, these things are all relative. Him and his family are accustomed to a certain lifestyle etc. and 15m quid is enough to make sure they can maintain that lifestyle for the rest of their lives if managed properly.

Either way, it doesn't matter how much money you have, most people aren't going to just walk away from 15m quid (minimum). Like I say, I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but that's just the way it is for most people. Maybe he's one of the tiny percentage of people who will value being a bench player at a world cup more than 15m quid, but I doubt it.

It's all very well saying it's worth a shot, but if it doesn't work, then we're stuck with a player that we've just destroyed our relationship with. If we're stuck with him either way, we're better off having him relatively happy rather than being banished to the U21s because we couldn't strong arm him out of the club. Like I say, we've basically snookered ourselves with this one and just have to get on with it.

See, if you had said “he’s not going to walk away from £15m or take a massive drop in wages” I’d take no issue with that it’s just that particular phrase “securing the financial future” especially the word securing as even by footballers standards it’s already secure.

I’m probably just being pedantic though.

Probably :D

Yeah I obviously don't mean if he signs for WBA he's going to have to send his kids down the mines to put bread on the table obviously. But like I say, it's all relative and he's got a very limited time to earn as much as he possibly can so I don't see why he'd voluntarily walk away from all that just to sit on the bench at the world cup.

I can’t really remember much of the window when we got him but I do vaguely recall something about him saying that France was important to him. How important is another matter, though.

Like I said though, the threat is worth a shot and if he said thanks but no thanks I’m happy where I am then at least we’d know what really drives him and seeing the emphasis Poch puts on character he would’ve burnt his bridges anyway. And you never know he might just surprise all of us and take another offer. Especially these days of lower table clubs still paying big wages. Surely there’s some mugs out there willing to offer him £60k pw but that’s perhaps a tad optimistic. If he really is on £90k with us that’s fucking scandalous in all honesty.

Thats what you say to a player that the manager has absolutely no intention of using.
Poch uses him all the time.

True. Shame that Dembele is half dead as I don’t think Sissoko would get a look in otherwise and I think he prefers Winks too but he’s obviously had his injury problems as well.

None of that changes the fact that Winks hasn’t been fully fit and Dembele is done, sadly.

As soon as we get a CM to cover Dembele I don’t think Poch plays Sissoko anymore, though.

In my unimportant opinion I think we’ve got enough options to
Never play Sissoko again. I’d recall Onomah, use Dembele sparingly (as we are) winks’ injury ain’t to bad either so will be back soon but, at the end of the day, Eriksen and Alli can play in CMF as long as they’re alongside a Wanyama or Dier.

This is partly why I was annoyed at missing out on Barkley, we could of said to Sissoko you’re not needed anymore, RB, Winks, Dembele are all ahead of you and we’ve got Alli and Eriksen as cover. I’d even rather play a CM2 of Dier and Wanyama if it meant Sissoko not playing.

Bit weird this hatred of him you seem to have if I'm honest mate.

Hatred? Really?

I just don’t rate him. At all. Like I really really don’t think he’s a very good football player. Are you telling me you think that’s an odd opinion to have or something?

That's how you're coming across mate.
I don't particularly rate him, but he can do a job and has some qualities that we're short of.
Besides, it's very unlikely he's going anywhere, Poch seems to appreciate what he can do, so you'll just have to keep dreaming about flogging him or banishing him to the reserves im afraid.

Poch doesn't seem to agree with you, does he? Poch chucked out players he didn't rate and laid the law down to Sissoko, who then knuckled down.
Your opinion holds no water, at all.

So you don’t rate him but take issue with me criticising him?

I suppose I’d disagree with you that he can “do a job” maybe 1 game in every 10, perhaps

Like I said I think Poch is only playing him out of necessity at the moment and I don’t think it’s been any secret that we’re looking to strengthen in his area and if it wasn’t for the wages point that you and others have raised he’d be out of the club pretty damn quick come the summer.

I never thought he’d be going anywhere this month.

I'm an adventurous man. I've faced all kinds of adversity, scaled the summit of human hardship, called on the cold indifferent universe with a wild lunatic laugh. I've traversed the highways of misfortune, fronted the terrible heckling of guilt, suffered the shunting shards of failure. And so I say this with a steely tongue and fortified heart: Sissoko is actually growing on me.

Now, you fuckers, do your best

So are you telling me that Poch plays Sissoko over 100% fit Dembele (shit even an 80% fit Dembele?) likewise with Winks.
