would a midfield containing him, lennon and modric not be too attacking though? i know wilson is good but im not sure how much help muntari would give him on the defending side of things. our goals against is so good because of the screen the midfield gives to the defence, i dont want to jeopardise that because it has probably been the main reason for our very good run of results

I've seen Muntari alongside Essien with the former playing more as a DM and was immense.
Would love us to sign midfielders of the calibre of Muntari, Cahill, Barry etc....

I don't rate the guy and yes I have seen him play umpteen times for Portsmouth before he went to Italy and there he has been worse.
Not in the same league as Gareth Barry!

Well that is your opnion and you are entitled to it, but people really should not cloud the issue by bringing up Barry. We have absoutely zero chance of signing him. He will only leave O'Neill to go to Liverpool and have a tilt at the title.

As was the entire Inter team. Take that out of your mind. Never saw him play for Pompey?

In the away leg they were better but he was still poor, gave the ball away umpteen times

Only when we played pompey as i was at the home and away game, to be honest i couldnt tell you if he even played, so he certainly didnt stand out !!

We wont sign him anyway IMO, Downing will be the one we get

He wouldn't be in direct competition with Downing. Harry played him CM. Mourinho plays him CM. Wouldn't be crying to see Mourinho get his Jenas in a swap for Muntari!

Not sure about that.
Barry is leaving Villa this year no matter what.
The guy obviously wants a new challenge and would like to play in the Champions League.
Will Liverpool go back for him? Unlikely unless they sell Alonso.
Will any of the other top 4 teams want him? Unlikely.Possibly Arsenal if Fabregas leaves.
That leaves him with the option of going abroad, its possible or signing for a manager who almost signed him previously and who manages the club he supported as a boy.
The guy is 28 with one year left on his contract,a bid of £10m should seal the deal.

He has stated before multiple times that he will leave for CL football only, which is why he agreed to stay another year to see if Villa could do it - and if not, he would be leaving for a CL club this summer. He doesn't want a new challenge, he wants trophies and CL football which we're obviously not going to provide for him. So it's much more likely that if no CL club comes in for him, he'll just stay at Villa. And if he's some mercenary then it's far more likely he'll go to Man City for ludicrous wages instead.

Yep and I really wouldn't be surprised to see Wenger make a bid for him, or Alonso, thus facilitating a bid for him from Liverpool.

I have to agree. Everyone seems too be obsessed with buying an out n out left winger like Downing but I'd more than happy keeping Modric where he is on the left..buying Muntari who is predominatley left footed makes
a lot of sense since he and Modric can switch positions during games..plus
having played in the Premier League, he'd should be able to come in and do a job right away without having to adapt or adjust to a n league.

Most importantly about Muntari is that Redknapp has worked with him before so if he was to sign him you can be sure he knows how to get the best out of him in our current side

That would be a good team thinking about it. I certainly don't think it'd be right to bring Modric into the middle and have Muntari on the left. I'd still prefer Barry though.

Thing is, even if Modric starts from the left he still finds himself very central a lot of the time, particularly in attacking situations. Someone like Muntari as a natural left footer, solid defensively and very under-rated attacking (same goes for Barry but in a different way of course) could play in the centre and easily cover left whenever Modric moves into the centre. Would balance the midfield even more than now.

Who knows what Mourinho is going to do this summer. They are expecting plenty of movement there so who knows.
