Recently we've picked up some really needless bookings. Bissouma at West Ham - stupid booking for petulance early on meant he was on a tightrope the rest of the game. Similar for Bentancur against Fulham - booked for kicking the ball away in the first half. And lastly Richarlison - I will never understand why a player takes his shirt off after scoring. Automatic yellow card, and even more foolish in the VAR era as you never know if the goal will stand. People will defend him and talk to the explosive passion of scoring a goal, but it is stupid. Conte says players need 'hot hearts and cool brains' and he is right. Our new players need to learn.

I kinda forgive Richarlison more than Bissouma and Bentancur, both of which I feel were stupid early in the game and left them on thin ice for the remainder. However Richarlison - what should/could have been the decisive final goal of the game, and his first in our shirt after a few very near misses like hitting the post with the volley - it was a massive goal for him and at that stage in the game there was less risk of getting a second yellow. As a fan I enjoy seeing moments of passion like Richarlison, rather than the small act of petulance displayed by Bissouma.

Conte is not an idiot - I'm sure he will speak to the players about finding the right balance between playing with passion and using their brains.

Yellow cards for taking your top off was ridiculous and outdated when they brought it in.
I always think it is strange that you get a booking for taking your shirt off and running to your own fans but it is completely OK to put your finger to your mouth and do the shush sign or cup your hand to your ear in front of the opposition fans. All of this is fine in my book. It is an emotional game and we want to see entertainment. Let people celebrate. Although that stupid mask thing the Wolves player does should be a straight red.

Fully agree re the bookings for Bissouma and Bentancur. They were just stupid and we need to learn from that as one of these will eventually lead to a red card or a suspension in the future.

The rule wasn't put in place because players were taking their shirts off in celebration, they did it because the players were wearing political messages on t-shirts underneath their shirts. I can totally understand why they did it.

Understand that less tbh. Not sure how you can sanction rainbow laces/BLM as a collective but not allow for individual expression (barring it being a swastika or something). As a corporate decision though I get ya.

Big fan of this thread as it illuminates how well we're doing that all we have to be concerned with atm is 3 silly bookings.

Yeah that was the reason I can remember hearing at the time I believe. I want to say it was something to do with Palestine and Israel and it nearly causing a riot but I'm not 100% on that. There were other rumours that it was also to do with players displaying sponsorships that didn't fit the Fifa brand as well.

What I don't get is why can't the yellow be rescinded when the goal was ruled out? The goal isn't given so the celebration should be null and void. And he didn't have a political message, or anything underneath the shirt.

I get the rules regarding shirt off celebrations, but think a bit of common sense with regards to the yellows wouldn't go amiss.

Which will happen in football matches forever. Or at least until the planet is hit by a great big meteor (unless Bruce Willis can save the day)

So, book them if there's a political message under the shirt.

Would be easy to fix that rule.

Players are not booked for taking their shirt off unless underneath they are wearing something other than a plain white or plain black shirt (obvious medical aids and strapping aside). Non-permanant tats also not allowed before anybody says it :)

Yeah I guess it's then a case of who decides what is a political message and what isn't. I guess they decided a blanket ban was easier.

Don't really see the issue personally. Is it that much of an issue to just not do it?

Just celebrate with your shirt on. Always love a good knee slide.
No yellow card just Green knees.

Fair point. Pretty stupid and unnecessary thing for any player to do. At least if there was a message under the shirt there was a reason behind it.
