Looks like we've hired the senior performance analysts (or equivalent) from Southampton (Mitchell), Leicester (MacKenzie), Brighton (Metcalf), Bournemouth (Webb) plus scout from Malaga (Esparraga) in the past 4 months.

That suggests a major shift in strategy to analysing players and scouting rather than watching MoTD and a selection of european matches on other TV channels.

Our committee is going to need a bigger meeting room.

Our committee is going to need a bigger meeting room.

So that's the real reason why the training rooms are being enlarged in the new stadium.

Wonder if anyone's told Daniel they are needed for the meetings this year !

Dunno about anyone else but I'm loving this news. We're clearly building something pretty special behind the scenes which can only benefit the long term future of the club.

It'll still just be Baldini on the transfer committee.

These 4 (Mitchell, MacKenzie, Metcalf and Esparraga) have been recruited to work under him. A key part of his remit has been to repair our 'embarrassing' scouting and analysis network, which assembling this new team is doing.

There is also a much bigger focus on big data analysis and algorithms (the computer game generation) with these new lot, alongside 'sheepskins in the stands' scouting.

Mitchell doesn't work under Baldini,so the other 3 won't either.

Hopefully it will lead us more Bale and Modric type signings or more than the Soldado and Lamela ones

And we won't see things like "Suarez is too similar to VDV and we should go for Andy Carroll instead" or "Raheem Sterling has too much baggage"

Even the "perfect" scouting setup will miss players. I don't want us to be like Arsenal and be forever defined by the players we could have signed.

Are Arsenal defined by that? I've certainly heard more stories of players Spurs could/should have signed and didn't than Arsenal

Maybe that's because as a Spurs fan those stories register with me and the Arsenal ones I pay no attention to

I'm hoping all these new backroom recruits were poch's requests, if so then it definitely proves levy is backing poch and is more on board with any other manager we've had.

I think Mitchell was Poch's request and Mitchell requested the rest of the team.
I don't think this is just about backing Poch, it's about putting in a player recruitment and scouting system that will work for years to come regardless of who the manager is, as the signings under AVB's reign have generally failed.

I hope we use this team wisely and bring in some really exciting and dynamic forward thinking players.

Yes he does. The Daily Fail just made that up because they hate 'foreign' things like DoFs.

The whole scouting department falls under the DoF's remit.

Mitchell isn't that senior. He's only a stats/analysis guy. He doesn't go out and watch players, or have anything to do with agents and deals. He collects data and runs algorithms to predict future patterns

A big proportion of his role is internally-facing too. He analyses the GPS and other statistical data of the academy players etc.

Google Franco Baldini. Then look at the news. Since November the papers have al been saying that Mitchel has come to Spurs but will not be working for Baldini. Mitchel was top man at Soton for player recruitment. Why would he take a step backwards?

"We are delighted to announce that Franco Baldini has joined the club in the role of technical director."

"We are delighted to announce that Paul Mitchell has joined the Club as Head of Recruitment and Analysis."

imo I would say Technical Director was somewhat more senior than Head of Recruitment and I suspect that Mr Mitchell is a direct report to FB.

Both Mitchell and Mackenzie live scout.

There's been multiple interviews where they explain what they do and they state that the technical aspect is to find targets, whom they then watch live as they still view that as a crucial aspect of he job.

All copied/originating from a single Daily Fail article

Most tabloid journalists are 4-4-2 pie 'n' chips men. They hate DoFs and seek to undermine them at every opportunity

Baldini is a director and has a directorate, which includes the scouting department and all its staff
