In light of the mixed opinions flying around in the 'New name for our lovely club' thread, ranging from..

'This is all getting sicker by the minute....i think we have alot of gooners posing as yids on our sites......we are becoming a joke!'

to more light hearted suggestions like..

Honkeytonk Bedonkerdonks. :)

and the more seriously 'credible' suggestions? such as..

FC Hotspur (Spurs)
London Hotspur (Spurs)

As someone pointed out, the idea of marketing a club as 'London' could take Spurs into the next stratosphere, with the worldwide recognition our great international capital has! missed opportunity seeing that there isn't a single club in London that includes the Citys name, can you think of any other great city that doesn't have a team bearing the name?

Where do I start?

Firstly, it's been done before.

Secondly, in the previous gazillion threads about the possible name change we've come to the conclusion that we own the trademark for the name Tottenham Hotspur. So it's not going to bloody change.

Thirdly, even if it we're to change, how anyone could not get so angry that their eyes pop out and instead jokingly discuss what a cool name Stratford Spurs would be, is IMO annoying.

We'd be Spurs. No one says "Tottenham hotspur" anyway, it's usually Spurs. I can't see any reason why we would change our name. Arsenal didn't change their name to Holloway Arsenal when they moved to the Emirates

I don't understand these threads. Surely, if we absolutely HAD to drop the Tottenham name, we'd just officially become Spurs. I think most people refer to us as Spurs rather than Tottenham anyway.

Although I am now quite fond of renaming to the Honkeytonk Bedonkadonks. Fitting it into a chant would be quite the challenge though.

No but they dropped Woolwich when they moved originally.

Totally agree that we'd be known commonly as 'SPURS' and we'd call ourselves 'SPURS' but would there not be some potential in promoting the club worldwide with the 'London' tag? you can just see all the Koreans and Japanese that love London saying - 'Ooh a club in London I'll support them then!'

More to the point when Arsenal moved to Highbury they didn't change their name to the Highbury Gunners, or Gillespie Road Gunners or whatever, in fact the place changed it's name to suit the famous club.

Seeing as the area we would move to doesn't actually have a name, lying as it does in the Lea Valley somewhere between Leyton and Stratford, my vote would be to change the new area name to Tottenham.

Anyway, if our history tells us anything it tells us things change. We'd arguably be moving back to our roots as a Club born on the Lea Valley Marshes, were we to take on the OS.

The name Tottenham Hotspur was also foisted on us, we were originally - as everyone knows - just The Hotspur FC, but were forced into changing our name to Tottenham Hotspur to distinguish ourselves from another prior Hotspur FC.

I can just imagine at the time the outrage from disappointed fans...

"We're not fucking Tottenham Hotspur. We're Hotspur FC!!!"

"If the club moves to Tottenham, that's the end of it for me!!! It will be dead!!!"

"We're from the Marshes, the song goes Hotspur from the fucking Marshes."

"That's who we are, You lot sicken me!!! You mark my words in a few years people will be singing "We're Tottenham, Tottenham from the White Hart Lane!!"

"You lot don't know what history is!!!! Totally disgusted!"
