The crowd will quickly get edgy what with recent events on and off the field so it's imperative we don't start off lethargic and passively give Newcastle the added impetus.

Yeah definitely.

The worst thing we could do is make a slow and sloppy start, encouraging them on to us and the crowd getting behind them.

Strong start is imperative. They're there for the taking tomorrow night, without doubt.

Even Pardew is doing all he can to try and build motivation...all this shit about finishing ahead of United....players were probably like big whoop lol

Lets be honest, there are zero excuses for us not winning this football match.

Despite generally looking terrible each and every single week, we are in very good form. They, in contrast, are an absolute shambles. They've sold their best player and any other mildly decent football player they've got is out either injured or suspended. To cap it off, their manager is Alan Pardew.

If Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, even United were travelling up there in these circumstances, everybody to a man, would be saying banker away win. There is no reason why this shouldn't be a comfortable 3 points, even if it is Tottenham we are talking about.

End of the day, Newcastle have accumulated enough points to be safe realistically speaking but little chance of European football so mid table mediocrity beckons.

Couldn't really pick a better time to face them at St James' Park so the onus is completely on us to make this count but it will be interesting to see which personnel Tim picks as I'd be astounded if he didn't make at least one other change should Bentaleb be out.

very latest team news from the Mirror

What has Vlad done to himself? Six weeks?

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood could hand winger Andros Townsend a start against Newcastle, as he continues his recovery from a hamstring problem.
The 22-year-old played the final half hour in the 1-0 success over Everton on Sunday after nearly two months on the sidelines.
Elsewhere, Sherwood has no new injury concerns for the trip to St. James' Park, with defender Vlad Chiriches set to be out for the next six weeks.
Erik Lamela and Sandro will also be missing with thigh and calf problems respectively.
Provisional squad : Lloris, Friedel, Archer, Gomes, Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Rose, Fryers, Dembele, Capoue, Eriksen, Bentaleb, Paulinho, Chadli, Townsend, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Soldado, Adebayor, Kane, Defoe

The Everton result was great, but the turgid midfield nullification from both sides left a lot to be desired. I'd like to see us be a bit bolder in this one. Either go with Soldado and Ade, or play one of our best ball players in his best position (ala the recent Vertonghen thread) by playing Eriksen centrally at the apex of midfield trio (the #10).

I reckon if Sherwood thinks it could be a midfield numbers game with Newcastle - assuming they play like an away counter attacking side because of their current troubles - then he could go with Eriksen behind Adebayor and still have the numbers in the middle without isolating Adebayor. If he thinks they're there for the taking, I'd be happy to see Soldado given a go.

But I don't think I'd like to see a midfield trio of Dembele, bentaleb and Paulinho again; while they offer solidity, they tend to keep things a little too safe in possession when some risk taking is what's needed.

Weather looking terrible. 80mph winds and heavy snow in the area.

Fuckin HELL that would be harsh if it were to be postponed. My only highlight in a brutal week for me, especially since the scenario is optimally set up for us to end a ten year streak of no wins at St James'.

I think there is a little too much confidence in here about tonight's game. This is by no means an easy contest for us.

Conditions will be horrible. Temperatures will be falling as the night wears on. Midweek fans always seem to get behind their team a lot more (maybe due to increased alcohol intake!). Just like Chelsea last night, it will be easy for our players to start wishing for the final whistle, only to lose concentration.

That's just one of the ways we could slip up. I still think this is a very winnable game for us but a draw wouldn't be a disaster.
