Van Dijk stays with Lamela and lets Forster cover his near post. If Lamela was wide open then yes obviously he should've passed but he wasn't.

He's the top scorer in the premier league and is supremely confident. Do you really want him passing the ball off inside the 6 yard box to players who aren't wide open?

chance 1 still would've left lamela 20 yards out and with a player to beat, kane is just as likely to bang one in the bottom corner from 30 yards than lamela is to score from there. chance 2 van dijk had the cut back to lamela covered, i don't know why this keeps being ignored. I've moaned about kane previously and think this "the best strikers are also the greediest" cliché is a load of bollocks but those two instances against southampton were nowhere near as bad as they're being made out to be.

Even if they weren't as bad as was made out, if it's poised at 1-1 later on this afternoon and we get a breakaway with 10 mins to go and he opts to shoot from a tight angle and misses instead of passing it sideways to Lamela for an easy tap in and we lose 2-1 to a late winner I for one will be seriously pissed off because for all his talk about us a team wanting to finish second he will have clearly sacrificed his own needs to win the golden boot before the teams needs. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that and both his needs AND the teams needs are equally satisfied.
