Fairly routine win. Newcastle weren't up to much, more interested in sitting deep and soaking it up than really giving it a go. We need more zip though, before the sending off it wasn't clear where a goal would come from.

No. He played well. I never criticized him at all. Just said I dont think he's ready for the big boys. I stand by that.

What is he likely to do against big boys that any of our other RB's haven't over the last few years ? If he makes a mistake against the best does that mean he's not ready or he's just a RB making a mistake like Walker and Trippier have done ?

Wonder what Shelvey's team mates have to say to him in the dressing room after that? We struggled in the first half and 'm not 100% confident of a win if Shelvey's doesn't have a brain spasm.

Either way, a good result and we are up and running.

I'd have given it to eriksen but kwp might have just saved us £20m. Good debut.
Who needs WALKER when we've got Peters well played my son. Great effort from the lads got to say we have got the best starting 11 in the league up to maybe 13. So just need a bit of back up for the squad. Well played Spurs!!! Chelski next let's av it.

Come on, it wouldn't be fair on the rest of the league if Harry started scoring in August!

That was a stroll in the park.

Remember, we didn't start the high intensity stuff until a fair few games in to the campaign last season. Even with 11 they weren't really in it.

KWP was brilliant for his first start. Great awareness

typical first game of the season performance.

Thought we started to up the tempo in the 2nd half, even before that bastard Shelvey decided to deliberately walk on Dele's ankle.

Good debut for KWP, did'nt look out of place in the Prem.

All in all, a good start to the season.

Pity, although somewhat understandable, we went to sleep after Davies' goal because we could have easily gotten four if we kept our foot on the gas.

That's our game management which is spot on IMO, we could have gone all out but no need, reserve our energy and take the 3 points and clean sheet.

Massive 3pts as they all are. Great to get up and running as soon as possible given how shit arse, pool and the chavs have looked.
It sounds silly, but psychologically the most pleasing thing is: we're in front of Chelsea and Leicester!

God so many moaners on here for that first half!
Painful reading - all wanting instant fast, free-flowing, scoring football!
MoPo did what he needed to do and with Wanyama, Son & Winks coming off the bench we're not in bad shape - and we'll get better.
3 points in the bag. Job done and that is what it is all about.
COYS!

What can you say... We aimed to exert as little energy as possible, the sending off helped that, we eventually picked the lock and gladly took a routine 2-0 without really getting out of first gear.

Good to get a comfortable three points opening weekend, feels like fucking ages since that happened. On to next weekend where I suspect it might be a bit more of a test...

They looked determined, the first of many wins nothing to get carried away about
I think this is it - was a workmanlike performance against a team that was set up to frustrate and score on thew counter. We did what we needed and I think what was expected - win comfortably (post Shelvey's idiocy).
