Monchi now linked to Villa too. Be gutting to see him go there and not to us
I think Roma are still recovering financially from his disastrous spell there

He has such a specific way of doing business and when it doesn't work it really doesn't work.

Would rather not take the risk.

I swear we've been linked with this bloke before, so maybe one to look out for. Would probably be an underwhelming choice but who knows, we got Paul Barber from Vancouver Whitecaps, so you cant really tell.

He’s got them promoted twice on a tiny budget, appointed progressive coaches, and helped rebuild their training ground. He’s done a good job even though fans gave him stick when they didn’t go back up this year.

Rumour is he’s going to Leeds I think though.

Yep, that is what the last line of the article says. I just thought it pertinent given the timing. I'd read that Norwich fans had been happy with his work in the past but not so much recently.

Yeah DoFs are extremely hard to judge. Most people seem to judge based off success at other projects but there's so many additional factors it seems.

When Munn got appointed and there wasn't a ton of "exciting" DoF names for me personally (outside of the few from Germany), I was honestly hoping there'd be someone within City Football Group we could poach. They have set up a pretty successful network of global scouting, you'd think someone is ready for the step up to lead the charge somewhere else within that system

I'm the opposite. I want a proper experienced DOF who is used to running big clubs. Munn has limited experience and we all know what Levy is like. He has to be a strong person with a lot of contacts and experience of running and looking after the departments of the club.

2/3 years ago I think he could’ve been a good appointment, made some very strange and bad appointments/decisions recently even so the Norwich fans are glad he’s gone.
Hope we stay well clear.

I live in Norwich now, and they hate him here these days. He’s arrogant, made some terrible decisions (Dean Smith), and has also totally dismissed their women’s team and publicly stated that nobody cares about women’s football and he finds it boring. He’d be a terrible appointment.

To be fair, no one does care about women's football and 'boring' is being very very kind.

I like Oliver Ruhnert, presently Sporting Director of Union Berlin.

Union Berlin (Chief Scout in 2017/18, Sporting Director 2018 to present)

I lived in East Berlin for 3 years prior to 2018, Union Berlin was a nothing club. Have gone to see some odd games with friends..
He took over sporting director in 2018. Just look club progression. He appointed Urs Fishcher , out of job Swiss coach from wilderness...and he is still their manager, who is seen as great Bundesliga manager now.
Just look at the progression :

2018/2019 - Got promoted to Bundesliga
2019/2020 - 1st season in Bundesliga finished 11th
2020/2021 - Qualified for Conference league
2021/2022 - Qualified for Europa league
2021/2023 - Qualified for Champions league, inspite of losing Awonyi to Forest. Was with title hope at some point in season.

At Schalke (Scout , Schalke II manager and Academy head btw 2007 to 2017) :
He is UEFA licensed coach, been a scout, and academy manager of Schalke for 6 years.
In his 6 years at Schalke, some of the players came through under his leadership : Draxler, Matip, Sane, Mckennie, Kolasanac,Thilo Kehrer, Max Meyer.

Post World cup win, he was asked how Schalke kept producing so many talents. They also scouted great youth players like Goretzka

His quote - 'Mentality is the first thing we look for. Any of our scouts know the information we want above all else. What is his mentality? What is he doing when the team are losing? How do his team-mates react to him?The second step is what they can do with their feet. There have been players who would make our team better, for sure, but in the future they would have been a black sheep. This is especially important for Schalke, it is more than technical skills'

I am not saying go, hire him. Just pointing out, how the sporting director should be.

We need find that 1 visionary like him and stick with him. Its difficult but examples like this can be found. Instead of chasing big name Monchi (who himself was a big flop at Roma), we need to look for a Sporting director, who really identfies with club, want to stay long term and actually make a change for good

The lack of any concrete candidates recently makes me dread that Levy has decided we don't need anyone to fill the DoF position
