This is how the club described it:

"Stricter control of our cost base, increased commercial and sponsorship revenues and consistent European qualification are key to our ability to continue First Team investment and stay competitive."

There is a massive difference between even Europa League and CL.

Given that we have £80M worth of players to purchase before we even add a single player - and we are going to be much more focused on selling than we are buying.

And when you consider that we should be looking to add starting CBs, GK, and potentially a CM/AM - you are looking at £100-150M worth of new players - on top of the £80M we have to commit to Deki and Porro. That is asking a lot of a club that is historically very conservative in the transfer window.

CL qualification this season is significant for us - as are getting decent prices for Lo Celso, Ndombele, Sanchez, et al. We will not be Abel to afford to send all the deadwood out on loan again - unless we get a new owner/new investor.
We’ll have to agree to disagree.

Of course consistent European qualification (note they don’t say CL qualification) is helpful from a financial side of things but I maintain it’s just a smokescreen to justify their lack of spending on the football side of things. The difference in income from what we had at WHL, even with CL qualification, and now, with the new stadium, is massive and it’s only going to get bigger. Other teams at our financial level(Arsenal, Chelsea and even Newcastle-remember they are restricted by FFP rules) spend more than us. If our commercial income keeps increasing at the rate it has been doing recently we will be soon earning much more than every other club with the exception of the Manchester clubs. One of which is financially doped and the other May soon follow in their footsteps but as Newcastle have discovered FFP rules are a lot tighter than when Chelsea and City exploded on the scene.
Before someone says”yea but we have a stadium to pay for” we only pay 40M a year to service our debts which is easily manageable.

That article where it accuses of Nagelsman of absolving himself of blame for defeats...

Didn't Klopp blame every possible weather condition before accept responsibility?

Didn't Pep get really prickly when interviewers suggested his tactics were not good enough?

All set. Not brave enough to say more. Yes a feckin riddle
Apologies if someone has already solved this, but if you rearrange the letters and remove the following letters "setnotbveenughtosaymoreyesafeckinridle" it spells Gallardo.

It's so obvious it's probably been solved but thought I would post anyway.

I’ll believe this one when the press start getting behind the likelihood.

For now, I think there’s a very real chance he waits till the summer to do anything.

We go through coaches like hot cakes, we need a host of new defenders, our best player is at risk of leaving and I doubt we have much cash - I can see why anyone would be cautious about joining.

It wasn't the action itself, it was the timing. All he had to do is wait 6 weeks for the season to end, but he put in a transfer request, not only when we were in a title race, but it was a few days before the FA Cup semi final.

Like I said if he'd done so in a strop, telling Poch it was because he wasn't starting every week, or if he'd given signs that his decision meant that he was no longer committed, I'd understand it - as it is I still think there was basically nothing wrong with what Walker did.

If he'd waited until the summer, his agent would've already been finding a club for him, and he'd have been accused of betraying Poch's trust, stabbing the club in the back etc.

I’ve only just got my head around the fact that I’m older than all the Spurs players - I don’t think I can handle the manager as well.

JN would be exciting and would make my day. It seemed like the perfect appointment the last time around. Hope it happens!

He didn't just say he wanted to leave, he specifically said he wanted to join City, the betraying in Poch's trust/stabbing in the back had already happened.
