FFS… :sleepy:
Yes we know your position in this.

Let them that want a new keeper discuss who they want and those aren't interested can continue to bury their brown noses up Robbos arse.

I'd be happy to see Palop or Amelia

Ooooh. You really are to rapier wit what Pavarotti was to Swan Lake, aren't you?

So how, precisely, does one discuss the merits and demerits of goalkeepers—of all positions—on the basis of YouTube clips, which is what half the contributors on this thread seem to be doing? And as Paul said, this must only be about the tenth thread we've had on the topic recently. It certainly feels like that.

So, Palop and Amelia. Do tell. I've seen little of one this season, and next to nothing of the other, so I'd be grateful—indeed intrigued—to read the opinions of an expert. And how would you say they stack up against Kameni, or Adler, or Lopez?

I read in the paper the other day (yes - I know) that Boruc is unsettled at Celtic and Aston Villa are sniffing around. If this is true and he's as good as some people on here say he is then he'd be worth a look.. Also, I haven't seen anyone else suggest this in any of the other numerous keeper threads - what about Gordon if Sunderland go down? We were supposedly after him last summer but weren't willing to pay what they were... Maybe we'll change our minds?

Yeah I have been a impressed by Gordon but again the price is going to put people off. If Sunderland go down (which I doubt) they aren't going to sell there keeper for less then they paid a year ago

City might be releasing Kasper Schmeichel this summer for less than a million. If he turns out anything like his old man he'd be worth a gamble for the future. Cudicini would be my pick for next term if Drobbo is history.

At the moment, I have no real favourites over who we sign, I just want a GK that can - and does! - command his area/communicate effectively with the defence/instills confidence in those around him/catch a ball/punch a ball properly/doesn't get caught out of position/doesn't get 'surprised' from long-distance/reacts well and is a valuable asset to the team.

Or is all that too much to ask??

What about Wayne Henessey, have him and Alnwick competing for the jersey next year, keep them on their toes, kinda like Casper Schmiechel and Hart at city?

Hennessey looks a good prospect, I remember he kept 10 or 11 clean sheets in a row when he was on loan a little while back. Anyone in the top half could make the play offs so if they don't go up I can't see them being able to turn down a few million for him, especially if he wants to come.

Has already made his Wales debut, I think, and his rise has been pretty meteoric.

Edit: From wiki

Hennessey scored with a 40-yard free kick playing for Wales Under-19s against Turkey.

Hennessey played in all nine of Stockport County's Football League record breaking successive clean sheets and wins,[8][8] when they beat Swindon Town 3-0 on March 3, 2007.[8] After the match he was named as League Two Player of the Month for February 2007.[9] Hennessey now holds County's record for the longest period without conceding a goal, beating Harry Hardy's 85-year-record. His record now stands at 857 minutes, from the start of his competitive club debut, Vs. Boston United on 13th January 2007 until Oliver Allen of Barnet scored on 10th March 2007, he therefore didn't concede in his first 9 and a half matches of competitive club football. He was re-called by Wolves at the beginning of april.

There are certainly some very useful keepers in the Bundesliga, but what I'd like to know is how the Yanks manage to turn out so many good ones.

I agree, other than than fool at arsenal, german keepers have a strong track record. Obviously, Neuer is going nowhere - not a selling club and he's a talented local lad. I also agree one game against porto does not a great keeper make...

American keepers (typically) grow up playing basketball and american football as well, so it's a good combination of handling the ball and physical contact. It's rare in the states that young atheletes play only one sport during the year - cross training/competition is the norm.

On the other stuff maybe Stecklenburg will be available? He definitely looks better than Robbo. Who knows, maybe Scott Carson will be available... I've heard a lot about Amelia and seen him play a couple times - maybe a bit risky making the transition to the premiership? More likely he'll go to Milan. I've never seen Kameni play, but from the little I've read about him he doesn't seem a top keeper - probably better off with Robbo instead. Who knows, aren't all keepers head cases anyway?..

And Keane was rumoured to be considering offering us a Robbo-Gordon swap back in January; if there was anything in that, it tells you all you need to know. To be honest, he doesn't look any better than Robbo to me—a mixture of great saves and bloopers—and not as good as the Robbo of two years ago.
