Right now the Carling Cup is worth more than finishing 6th in the Premiership!

Winning the League Cup is always better than finishing sixth - or fifth or even fourth - in the league.

I know you're making a fair point about the European place, but even if sixth was guaranteed a Waffa place I'd still rather get it by winning a Cup at Wembley.

I can safely say that being at Wembley on Sunday was a better feeling than either of the fifth-place finishes. I'd dare say finishing fourth wouldn't prompt scenes of celebration like Sunday's either.

Yeah, yeah, Carling Cup, Worthington Cup, Coca Cola Cup, Fizzy Drinks Cup, Worthless Cup, whatever it's called, it's still a trophy and a place in Europe and the millions that go with that. There are hundreds of clubs, both amateur and professional around the country that would love to have done what we just did.

We could finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th from now to eternity and still win nothing!
I too would take a cup win AND the resulting EURO run anytime!

well said Tickers - I wasn't at Wembley this time but I've been there before and I know how great winning there is - and finishing fifth is nothing like that

finishing 4th in the CL era mmmmm - that's a hard call - cos I've never experienced it - (none of us have) - but I doubt it'll beat the feeling of winning at Wembley

Football's about glory - and incidentally the money in the Prem these days means that CL is not even as big as the Prem these days financially - of course getting prem & CL money is the best financially

Okay, I would prefer the FA Cup, a Europe Cup, but hell, I'd take the league cup every single year if I could!!!!!!!!!!!

:) Haxman - another thing that people often forget- when we say as I believe to be the case that we are the 5th best team in the country at present (6th at a push) - that isn't 5/6 out of 20 clubs - that's 5/6 out of 20,000 clubs even more -

simply getting to the Prem is an acheivement (think what a fuss the Hammers make of it :) you're already treading at heights that so few can ever reach

"bigger fish to fry" or not we won it fair and square. chelski, arsenal and everton fans were desperate to win it once making the semis

we got bigger fish too with the uefa cup but as said a cup is a cup and we had that for years

I have to say that I've never considered the C Cup to be worthless. In fact i believe that for every team in the top 2 divisions outside of the top 4 of the prem, it's the most important cup there is. Purley because it's a way into the Uefa Cup. And it's the easiest way to get there.

It's only the media and the top 4 once they get knocked out of the cup that they say it's not important to them. Says a lot that it's been shared between the top 4 in recent times though.

Remember, it's only 5th place in the league that is guarenteed UEFA Cup, and we've come 5th the last 2 years. For every other team in the league who finished below us, it's their best chance of Europe.
