Without wanting to be the naysayer I can't help being one. These exchange deals never seem to come off. Real will just play the game and say '' yeah sure ... Sahin yeah no probs '' . Then as soon as we have agreed the deal Sahin will just say that he doesn't want to come to England and we will just sell them Modric for 35m.

I would be interested in Sahin but I would do it as 2 seperate deals. When you look at signing Sahin as a seperate deal it starts to look less likely. When you look at Modric as a seperate deal there is no way you sell one of the only playmakers of his ability thats available ( they aren't going to sign Xavi are they?) for anything less than £40m.

In which case at the start of negotiations we attach a monetary value to Sahin and what he brings to the deal - if he doesn't want to sign for us, Real have to pay the extra cash.

Tottenham's thinking in approaching Villas-Boas has been to revitalise a football department that had grown stagnant under Harry Redknapp. Levy regards Villas-Boas as a modern, attack-minded coach who will reform the Englishman's lax tax training culture, improve players' fitness, and prepare them properly for matches as the club moves into a custom-built training centre in Enfield.

If only it were that simple.

The longer the deal goes on, the weaker our position is in terms of getting a replacement. There are other parts of a transfer than the transfer fee. Once Sahin comes out of the deal, it will basically have to be drawn up again. Sure that won't take as long but we will be in a weaker position than we were when we started the deal because Real will know that we don't want it to drag on.

Never been a mods fan so for me I hope these reports have legs. Sahin and jv would be unbelievable additions, two cultured ballers who would turn us into a better team

Thing is, if you're a 'top, top' young player and you've been at Madrid for one year without really making it do you really want to just give up and join a team that's not even the CL?

I think players like that usually wait around at least 2-3 years before finally deciding on seeking a perm transfer somewhere else.

Of course we could get him in on loan but that doesn't excite me. Sell Modders and replace him with a loan signing? Levy heaven!

Know nothing about the guy, so I YouTubed.

Now usually when you see a YouTube highlights reel, you have to remember that it's an edited selection and dial expectations down a bit.

Oddly though, in this case YouTube makes him look rather mediocre. I reckon I could stick a more impressive collection together for Jamie O'Hara.

Not worried as plenty of people seem to rate him, which is a more reliable measure than a couple of videos - but it seems a bit strange nonetheless.

If I knew Sahin would be committed to the Tottenham cause for at least three years and was injury free, I'd take him without the cash for Modric. I think he's that good.

He's good, but if they were offering 30m and him I wouldn't tell them to stick the 30 mill up their arse.

A guy friend who supports real madrid said this would never happen because mourinho has a "plan" for sahin and got him to replace xabi alonso when he gets older

Surely that's exactly what Modric would be going there for?

I will take a year loan then, not the greatest, but it could make the difference between one spot or two in the table.

We tell RM the price for Modric is £45m or £32m plus Sahin (he was bought by RM for 10m euros), and draw up contracts appropriately.

See which way RM want to jump :)

Well there's two viewpoints on that Harry. The first is as you've put it but the other has us in a position of strength in that we still hold a contract on Modric that has 4 years on it. If the negotiations don't align in the way that benefits us the most, then we don't have to sell Modric. The longer the process goes on then the less likely it will be that RM get their man, in that scenario, so it may just be that they will be as keen to make the deal happen quickly as we would. Depends on just how much they want their man I suppose. Let us not forget too that RM often take their time over these type of deals, they chased Ronaldo over 2 seasons. I'm not suggesting that they'll view Luka in the same light but it's possible they'll wait a further season if the stars don't align for us, especially with the glut of other CM's they have on their books. They'd get at least one more season out of Alonso surely?

Alonso's got more than one season in him - even by Madrid's ridiculous standards - did you see his performance the day before yesterday against France?!
Football's gone mental, but not that ****ing mental! o_O

My point precisely. All the evidence would suggest that we hold a position of strength with regards to Modric wouldn't you say?

Think Sahin would be possible and wouldn't be a huge downgrade on Modric. Excellent player who orchestrated Dortmund's title season 2 years ago when he was 22 winning player of the year in Germany. Him plus £25m to improve other areas would be a great deal.

yeah you have a point.

I worry about Modders attitude if he doesn't get his move this year.

Alonso will play with Modric in a 4-2-3-1 imo.

Modric Alonso

Ronaldo Ozil Di Maria

Benzema

Seriously handy.
