Glovers swoop for Spurs duo
Tottenham starlets loaned to League One side

Yeovil have taken Jonathan Obika and Andros Townsend on month-long loan deals from Tottenham.

Both men will go straight into the Glovers' squad for their home date with high-flying MK Dons on Saturday.

Promising striker Obika was the top scorer for Spurs' academy side last season and has been among the goals for the club's reserves this term.
The 18-year-old was also handed a senior debut as a late substitute in a Uefa Cup clash with NEC Nijmegen in November.

His first full start also came in Europe, against Shakhtar Donetsk, and he impressed over the course of his first 90-minute run out.

Townsend, meanwhile, is a left-sided midfielder who was a regular in Spurs' U18 squad last season and travelled with the first team for a pre-season training camp in Spain.

He has won five caps with England's U16 side and was in Tottenham's senior squad for the Uefa Cup clash against Shakhtar in which Obika made his first start.

Again always good to loan out our youth players to get some first team football under there belts, and I like it how now that we have Harry we are a lot more active with our reserve and youth team.

The first love of my life was Yeovil town, until I discovered at the ripe old age of 10, the magic of Tottenham. Great news for both clubs and hopefully both players will develope by helping Yeovil Town

I'd really like Townsend in particular to make a good impression and push on to become a fixture on our left wing in the future.

Townsend was the one for me who really stood out against the Young Scum a couple of weeks ago. He looked pretty sharp with an ability to put in a curling cross - the fundamentals of a successful winger.

The ideal scenario would be for him to have a good loan spell, come back and get a game or two in the first team once we're safe in mid-table and have nothing to play for. Will it work out like that, probably not, but that has to be the plan to help the academy players believe in themselves.

thats very good news exactly what the lads need - to play in the business end of the season against teams fighting for everything. obika with his size should be able to handle himself, townsend might struggle physically but if they cant catch him they cant chop him down

Isn't it great?

We have realised that the best way of a) improving our youngsters and b) really finding out if they're good enough is to send them out on loan, where they'll get 1st team competitive football.

Not only that, but we have 13 young players that other clubs actually want, even at this early stage of their careers. That has to be good.

Hopefully we can get Smith, Mason, Parrett and Bostock loans as well.

Isn't there a limit now to how many loan players a club play? That is three now just from Spurs, plus the keeper they have just signed...

Not sure what has happened to Hutchins; he had good reviews on his debut but has not featured since, which for such a versatile players is surprising.

Obika has had a goal ruled out for offside and Townsend sounds like he is being a bit of a handful. He was fouled for the penalty which was saved incedently.

Imagine if the FA changed the rules and allowed teams the option of having 'B' teams in lower divisions, we'd have a pretty strong side
