I think this says more about Woodgates chances of returning this season. If Woody was fit our first choice would be Woody and King if fit, after that Daws would surely come in if King couldn't play. Now with Woody out, it looks like Daws will be the constant, + King if fit and if not one of Bassong or Kaboul.

Maybe the fact that Wenger won't buy a Dawson type "scrapper" is the the reason they have won f*ck all since Adams, Keown, Dixon, Parlour et al have gone....?

Funny enough when they were the invincibles none of the players above were in the squad apart from Keown, and as for Keown he had only played a few games. Viera was the captain then. I don't understand your point!

Actually Parlour was around too, but Adams passed on the mentality to Vieira, it was stll around the squad. Now they have a soft centre, and despite having great players they can't win anything.

He is right, but if it was Wenger he would have handed it to Modric. I could be proved wrong, but things like this are what differentiates Spurs to what makes a top 4 side!

Tony Adams, Patrick Viera and William Gallas were all captains under Wenger. Hardly in the Modric mould are they, say like Rosicky.

What differentiates Spurs to what makes a top four sides are world class players, not who is captain.

Yes, Parlour was around, but just becuase he's in the squad and a 'scrapper' as you would put it, it doesn't mean he should have been captain either. And rightly so he wasn't! You say that Adams passed his 'mentality to Viera, well where has Dawson inherited his mindless mentality? I hope Dawson doesn't pass that on to the rest of the squad.

Many people questioned King when he was first awared the armband, but similar to Modric they led from example and grew into the role.

Of course! A captain is undoubtedly one of many factors!

Maybe we should do what Capello did and give a few players the armband to see who relishes the role. Any permanent captain has to play every game, if Harry has chosen Dawson then we will probably see him in every game for the rest of the season.

I really don't think Harry gives a toss TBH - Yes he wants as many "leaders" on the field of play as he can, and with Dawson, King, Palacios, even Jenas Modric and Defoe, there are a few! and ONE of them will get a pretty armband to wear!

Who is the captain at Man U week in week out

It should be, and will be, Dawson. He is the only one on the pitch that actually talks at all when you remove players complaining to refs about not getting a decision.

I see him geeing up players all the time, slapping backs and ordering players positionally. No one else does this.

Wenger might have chosen Fabregas but how many games had Fabregas played for them when he was made captain? He was pratically the longest serving player at the club! Modric has yet to attain that experience, link or consistency of performance to warrant being captain, and given Harry has only been at the club a seaosn and a bit, he hasnt had the chance to mould players like Wenger has.

People might say that if King and Woodgate are fit then Dawson would not play. If your uncle had been a woman he would have been your aunt. Few people complain about Ledley coming back in and taking the captains armband on the odd occasions he plays.

But the most, singularly important thing we must do with the captains armband is not give it to Jenas. First time he was captain he didnt know where to lead the boys out to, which is understandable if you were at a unfamiliar ground but when you have played over a century of games at the Lane and lined up in the same position everytime I would hope you would be more spacially aware.

Harry Redknapp has named Michael Dawson club captain.Central defender Dawson takes over the armband after Robbie Keane joined Celtic on loan for the rest of the season.
Keane took over the captaincy from Ledley King when he arrived back at Spurs from Liverpool 12 months ago but Redknapp decided against reinstating the defender due to the ongoing knee problems which prevent him playing every game.
Centre-half Dawson leads his team-mates for the first time in Wednesday night's FA Cup replay at Leeds.
Redknapp said: 'I needed someone as captain who is going to play regularly.'

It's got to be a player who is a nailed on starter. Otherwise the armband just gets swapped around.

A player who leads by example, starts every game. The only three guaranteed starters for me are Gomes, Palacios & Modric. Palacios would be an absolute shoe in as long as his english was passable. Right position (middle of the pitch) right attitude (hates to loose).

I'd settle for either of the other two, but Modric isn't really a gaffer type and goalies don't really make great skippers IMO. You can't talk to ref every free kick, you can't run around geeing people up or bollocking.

I guess you could chuck Corluka into the mix. He must be a guaranteed starter now. Is intelligent and always involved. Not sure he's a natural leader though, but couldn't be any less of a leader than Keane or King.

yeah because we got plenty of respect from him. twice.

If you are gonna continue with your Keane disloyalty theme, can you at least take the Berbatov picture out of your profile pic? It kind of makes you look a bit thick...

The reason it is so difficult to pick a captain is because as a group, Spurs fans are by far the most fickle and apart from Lennon (who I suppose by default should be the next captain then), there isnt a regular first time player who doesn't come under an amount of stick from the "supporters". Probably says more about us fans than it does any potential leaders on the pitch
