Has anyone on here been to one of the showcase events and seen a copy of Opus? Has anyone on here actually bought a copy, or is going to buy a copy?

I'm trying to get the courage to go to a showcase event and risk being talked into selling a kidney to buy a copy of the one costing four grand, but would welcome any insight into it.

I won tickets to the Spurs 125 DVD premiere at the O2 back in September, and in the foyer before the film was shown there was a stand dedicated to the Opus, with a woman talking people through it.

I had a thumb through - it's the expected wealth of information about the origins/formation of the club, players/managers past and present, famous matches, everything you'd expect.

But it's definitely by far the richest printed source of information on Tottenham Hotspur available. It'd probably take three months of solitary confinement to read cover to cover, and after that you'd easily storm to victory on 'Mastermind'.

There are also unintentionally homoerotic pictures of the current squad posing shirtless or in string vests, with most of them trying to come across like G-Unit rappers but instead looking like 'Attitude' centrefolds.

Overall it goes without saying that the price is, to put it mildly, slightly off-putting. But I'm glad I got to have a look at one. And being so up-to-date player-wise will ensure it dates very quickly, but I guess they knew that.

an embarassing rip off.

Was quite funny when they tried to flog it at half time against villa and got a fair bit of abuse as we were 1-3 down.

My mate's got one (and not the shitty budget version). I was supposed to go round his over Xmas for a flick through, but I didn't get the time. I'll have a good read of it next time I'm back in the UK.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really into parting with bucketloads of cash for homoerotic shots of the squad......

They are trying to get me to be Robbo's neighbour in some Spanish village now. i'm ignoring all the begging e-mails i'm getting off the Opus sales staff after having had an argument with myself trying to justify the cost.

begging emails?

SURELY they aren't having issues shifting them are they?

4 thousand pounds? that's the cheap version as well isn't it?

With 4 grand, I would buy a brand new electric guitar for around £700, £300 amp and another £100 on other accessories, a Toshiba LCD tv for like 62 inches at about £2000, and still have about £900 left over, and id sell my current HDTV. If I didn't already own an xbox 360, id buy that.

instead, I would buy a top end toshiba qosmio laptop, leaving me with about £500 after selling my tv, probably more, and with that, i dont even know what else id buy.

perhaps a really nice super zoom lens for taking pictures for my new digital SLR i got as a present.

in reality though, id have to use about £1200 to clear my overdraft, and maybe just save a lot of the rest for when i leave uni, or put it toward a masters degree

or i could buy a big fat book.... of the squad posing....

tough decision that...

I would absolutely love a copy of this mighty tome and am considering taking out a second mortgage with Levy and Sons of Chigwell in order to raise the cash. Apparently they offer very competitive rates. But I was a little puzzled by the 'I am mad' in the small print, just above the space for the signature.

Is this normal? Can anyone help?

Bought a couple for the kids but they've torn out and coloured in some of the pages now which is a bit annoying.

I saw it at the 125 DVD launch, you've got to think this is justa rich person's plaything. If you spent £4k on a Spurs book would you just have it lying around? Take it down the pub for your mates to read?

It is huge. You could screw a leg on each corner and it would make a good coffee table. And weighs a bit as well.

And if you're buying one as an 'investment' you can't really look at it as you might damage a page and reduce it's value. Anyway you'd probably be better off buying £4k of Premium Bonds.

I'm definitely getting one.

I kinda suspected you'd be first on the waiting list actually

I got that letter, inviting me down to see if I'm interested in a timeshare.

That is a genius idea !!!!!

I've had yet another call from someone at the club asking me when I want to go to the club. He said he can show me the 3 versions of Opus, I can then have lunch and after that a tour behind the scenes at the ground. Sounds like they are desperate to shift them.

No such thing as a free lunch though.......
