OK - I know it's pre-season, and our defence has been superb in the last 2 seasons. So take that into account before you have a go at me.

But our defence has been absolutely shocking these last few matches. Truly dreadful.

Should we be worried?

It's the laws of physics really,

You play with two very slow full backs who don't really have the pace to get back and cover runners in a highline vs a team with lots of very fast clever running players with two of the best passers in the game behind them...there's only one answer a pummelling as you can not defend against pace.

Liverpool done it to us with mane, city done it today with walker, danillo,Jesus, sterling used the full backs to stretch us then got the front 3 to make intelligent runs in behind.

I remember the great pre season of 2008 where David Bentley and co destroyed Roma and went on to take...I'll let 'Arry remind you.

It means nothing.

A highline against Liverpool or Man city is asking for trouble however fast the fullbacks.
But with the bigger pitch, we will be generally playing a higher line next season, and Lloris will have to return to his AVB rush goalie duty to make up for this lack of pace if Rose remains injured.

Trippier and Davies are too slow to play the way we want to against good sides, and it's gonna be even worse on the big pitch at Wembley.

I think Walker-Peters has a huge role this season. He will probably play both sides of the pitch.

Yes clearly we should be worried and take the last 3 meaningless friendly matches into consideration and completely ignore the 72 competitive matches where it really counts.

No, players are getting their fitness and Walker was not the lynchpin of our success over the last 2 years. Yes, his pace helped but he also got us into trouble with his brain farts.

Best defence in the league for the last 2 years and that will continue*

*Maybe not the best this year but there or thereabouts

Thats just not true. It does mean something as as much as you hear the fitness soundbite it is just as much as getting the technical elements in place too. No doubt he is experimenting by tweaking formations, positions, players and opposition tactics. So he should be taking tge performance seriously into the bew season. He will not want a repeat of some of the issues and i bet he will address some of these flaws in training. Its no different in any standard of football. Its also quite feasible the performance has made him ponder whether we need to strengthen more urgently. So i think it does mean something. Although in the scheme of things, who knows how much?
