And we saw enough to see they weren't good enough.
They were good enough, at least until we were able to get a world class striker
And we saw enough to see they weren't good enough.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder...
Who doesn't remember Pav being equally shit in front of goal?!
We should be looking at upgrading on ALL of the above.
The ade bashing, though justified, feels harsh. BUT, watching the highlights on MOTD, Bale had a chance to make it 3 i think, where he screwed the shot just past the post. On the replay from behind the goal, you can see Ade just ambling behind him. No attempt to make space, or to look for a pass. That for me was shocking.
Ive always wanted him ahead of Defoe, but now im not so sure.
Tbf to Camaj, Pavs goal scoring record was pretty good, and I remember him out scoring both Crouch and Defoe FROM THE BENCH one season (infact he scored more than both of them combined). I'll admit Pavs performances were not great towards the end of his spell with us, but I put alot of that down to having a manager that clearly didnt rate him despite out performing the other strikers at the club, that would drain any players confidence.
No, i'm referring to one in the first half, where bale dummied a shot and then drove it just past the post.
Pav: Apps 113 Goals 42Pav has lots of excuses made for him. He wasn't very good and not someone I'd like at Spurs right now.
Defoe and Ade aren't playing well, understatement I know, but talk of Bent and Pav is just nonsense.
I don't want to replace dross with more dross.
And considering Pav never really got a run in the side, and most of his goals came off the bench or sporadic starts, I think his strike rate looks better than our current strikers. Is he the striker we are looking for? of course not, but if you look at the FACT's theres no reason to suggest that he could'nt be doing AS well or even better than our current strikers had he remained at the club.
Of course, I mean we're talking purely hypothetically here, also, I dont think any of us expected Ade to be so poor this season. It's all easy with hindsight though. I'm sure that when we sold him we weren't expecting to be losing VDV. We don't know what sort of influence he was having in the dressing room, and if AVB would have rated him enough to play him either. There are too many variables to make a proper judgement I think.
I agree, the chanting of Defoe's name while Ade is on the pitch (and Defoe isnt) is not gonna help Ade's confidence.I'm continually amazed at the love our crowd give Defoe, chanting his name when Adebayor is on the Pitch. Jeering Adebayor but giving Defoe a complete free pass.
Defoes last 4 appearance in a spurs shirt, Swansea, Fulham, Milan and Liverpool have been nothing such of criminal.
If adebayor is subbed in a game again I would literally prefer dempsey to come on, or carrol and we just shift siggurdon in a more advance role and play without a striker. There's no point bringing on defoe in a game were the momentum is against us, you might as well just hold up a red card instead of his number when you make the sub
do i spy a redditor in our midst?I know the OP is negative here but no one can sit here and say he is wrong.
Anyone care to admit that Redknapp was wrong to sell Pav and Bent? I might give you Bent because he's struggling to get into the Villa team but I think Pav would have buried some of those chances yesterday.
I wish AVB was a bit bolder and dropped both strikers and played Dempsey as a striker. I think he'd do better in the box because he has shown great movement and that will create a lot of goals alone. Keane was an expert and scored a ton of goals with clever movement.
Long term though, we need two top quality strikers. Adebayor, Defoe and Crouch were bad buys
