PAOK-THESSALONIKI

Hello.i am openning this thread to help everyone who decides to come to Thessaloniki to watch the game and to get a clue of the team of Paok.

First of all i ll tell you a few things about Paok’s team:

Paok’s new coach Boloni bring a fresh air in the team
Formation is strictly 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 when we defence!
Weak line in my opinion is the defence!Paok failed during the transfer period to purchase a stopper to play along with Pablo Contreras and got stucked with Bruno Cirillo and Malezas to secure our goals!strong side is the midfield with 4 players who got leading skills!Fan’s favourite Pablo Garcia and Lazar are responsible for the defensive part of the line. Vierinha and Salpigidis both playing in the lines are powerfull and able to score!Especially Vierinha is voted twice as A player of the year for Paok and i a big threat for any team!on the offencive line there are not many alternatives!either Salpigidis(leaves his position on the right and goes up to ofence) or Athanasiadis will be taking the one and only place up front!
Paok’s form in the last month:
Valerenga-Paok:0-2 vierinha-garcia
Paok-Valerega:3-0 vierinha,Athanasiadis,Fotakis
Paok:Lviv:2-0 Athanasiadis,Lino
Lvil-Paok 1-1:Balafas
Paok – Xanthi:1-0 Vierinha

If you are intrested here are some videos of Paok’s Key players and recent form:

Still biggest problem for many teams is the fans of Paok!It might seem a bit hostile at first but still we are civilized and been thinking of Europe League as a big celebration! We try to make it difficult for every team!Shouting and singing make our players play better!I know that Tottenham has played with numerous teams and made it through difficult football grounds but i believe it ll be a new thing for everyone on the team!take a look of Paok’s stadium Toumba !D 11 ON MAP

Don’t worry about fireworks etc they don’t allow it during european matches and we respect it 100%!

Thessaloniki:
In general Thessaloniki is Greece second biggest city!population is estimated in 1.2 million people!Thessaloniki is a big city for Greek standars but not for Londoners! It will be easy for you to find your way!
For those of you who will be coming individually by airplane you can reach city center on half an hour by taxi(apx 10-12 pounds-15-20 euros) or in an hour by bus 78(0,90 euros ticket).not need to pre-book a taxi unless you are living early in the evening or morning after the much!pre booking can be done through the hotel reception and it will be cost you 1,5 euros more!
You can easilly have access to nightlife and shopping areas!i have heard from the media that you will be staying in the city center(last year manchester city fans stayed in the center too)!Thessaloniki is a historical and cultural center! If you have time i would suggest you to visit one or two monuments:
1:The white tower!Thessaloniki’s most famous landmark is situated along the seaside in the city center!simply you can’t miss it! E8 map
2. St Sofia church E7 map
3.Kamara(Galerius arc):situated on Egnatia str. kamara as it’s called by locals was established on 305 A.C.!E7 map
4.Rotoda!situated behind Kamara est on 300 A.C. this historical monument which is now st George’s chruch use to be Zeus temple!E6 map
i will give you now a map link to see around!the monuments, churches etc are all on the map!you can ask your hotel receptionist to provide you a map!
http://mappery.com/maps/Thessaloniki-Tourist-Map.jpg
You can easily do all this on foot but in case you don’t want to there is bus number 50!it starts every hour from bus stop in front of the White tower! There is a ticket of 2 euros for adults and 1 for kids or students!the ride is for 50 mins! http://www.oasth.gr/pdf/english.pdf

Shopping:Famous Tsimiski str. is a street full of shops!famous brands and shopping centers are situated here!if you want to visit a shopping mall Mediteranean Cosmos is the biggest one!you can shop have a coffee and eat as well!reaching it is quite difficult by bus although you can take 31 bus from any egnatia str stop to the end of Voulgari and then take bus 36 to the shopping mall!taxi will cost you 10-12 euros from city center!

Coffee time!Thessaloniki’s sea side is full of cafe’s so is aristotelous square E6!Try a frape, originally greek cold coffee, black or with sugar and milk!a frape will cost you 4 euros!a filter coffee or a double espresso will cost you the same amount of money!a beer can cost you 3,5-5 euros.

EAT!you can eat quite cheap and good in thessaloniki!City of greek kebap and mediteranean food!you can find any greek food you might have tasted in a greek tavern in uk or in a greek island!quality is guarantee!Try kebab in any shop you find in city center or not!it will cost you about 2,5-3 euros!my suggestion is to visit a small one on Aristotelous str just before Egnatia str on your right(you can find the spot on the map)
Try tavernas on athonos or ladadika(ask the locals for directions is really easy to find).here you can discover Greek food for about 10-15 euros per person! Most of the shops have live greek music too!
http://www.saloniki.org/gallery/?id=12362&sn=0 ladadika F6
http://wikimapia.org/1471983/el/Πλατεία-Άθωνος
Athonos sq. E6

Nightlife!simply there are spots in the center that gives you the idea that noone sleeps at night!Cafes and bars stay up late all around the city but there are some spots were nightlife is more than good!
Bar ice on the map in F6 :El venizelou str-seaside(Nikis)
Valawritou str:Full of bars and small clubs on map E6(says Valaoriti) if you are close the sound will lead you there!

Locals all around are very helpfull so don’t hesitate to ask for directions etc.

Weather:September is extremely hot in Thessaloniki but there might be light rainfalls.
The temp is 30-32 celcius today

ps1:I am not a tourist guide not trying to advertise any shop i am suggesting!our tastes might be different but i think these are the most well known spots of the city!if you don’t understand any of these or would like more information i will be more than happy to help you!

ps2:The match will be a celebration for us and the city!i would love to meet any of you take some memorable photos with scarves etc on the day of the match and have a cold beer.

Nice to see you in here and thanks for some of the useful tips - doubt I'll be able to get to any away Europa League games this season due to work commitments :(

Will be checking out some of those videos later when I get a chance :)

How do you feel about playing Spurs?

Any Paok fan knows that Spurs is a big team!your squad is extremly good and any comparisson is false to be made!we know our chances are not good but i believe that to grow up as a team big victories should be done!I hope that we have what it takes not to win this game(i hope we do) but to play attacking football that both sides would like!

What a top bloke !

Really wish I was going now.

Ignore the wankers that say we shouldn't take this competition seriously. After the league it's the next priority.

amazing that you took the time to put all that information down, really appricated. Some fans feel we should play the reserves as we want to make the league our priorty this year as so we can get back in to the champions league.

Hope you enjoy the game, and please feel free to come bck for a run down on the return fixture. We have a fried chicked hop called chick king that does well priced generic tasting food !! :) Although my personal favorite pre match food is Soul Food, at the bottom or nothumberland road, excellent West indian food well priced. not sure about the pubs in thel ocal area for away fans as they are all home only near the ground, but i guess most of your fans will be own in london somewhere before the game and will get the tube to the ground near kick off.

Yes, but you should still get away with it. They always overprice these kind of fixtures so tickets should not be too difficult.

Even if we do play our "reserves" they probably will include some names you are familiar with, Kranjcar, Huddlestone, Bassong, Walker, Rose, Pavluchenko and more, all in the first team, could feature, also the youth involved are of a higher level then Spurs normally get through, so many fans are excited at the possibility of some of them to develop in this competition. Expect Townsend and Livermore to get some game time even if we play with the first team. Carroll and Kane will also be in and around the team I would think.
