We needed at least 3 top centre backs before Romero joined. Where the fuck are the other 2? Assuming that both Jose and Conte asked for some centre backs it's inexcusable that we've had to watch Dier, Davies and Sanchez bumble around the pitch for the last 3-4 seasons.
If Hincapie is one of our top choices then he should have been brought in this window regardless for the fact that we still ANOTHER CB on top of that and a GK.

I think he came here at the end of the window in Poch's first season.
I remember it really really well. I'd just landed in Brazil and checked my phone to see if we had indeed made any last minute transfers on DD and saw the headline

"Spurs sign French midfielder..." started getting excited then saw..
"Benjamin Stambouli" and thought, who???

Was a typical Levy special that one.

Horrendous performance and result.
The fact we are a premiership team, with supposed notions of a top 4 finish , yet start with centre half's of Tanganga, Dier and Davies says it all, they were nowhere near good enough 4/5 yrs ago and are no closer now.
Dier was atrocious today, yet again. Tanganga will never be a premiership player and Davies is a squad player at best.
Top that off with a disappearing act from out front three, Kane had an off day and can probably call on points in the bank for carrying us so often. Kulu very poor and Sons poor, poor form continues.
We will hear excuses like an eye on Milan etc etc, but while we have the bones of a half decent team, the spine of our team is inadequate, esp at the back, where most teams foundations are built.
The winter window was never enough, but when we see the reply the Trust got from Levy and Co we can expect little change either, they are so far removed from what's needed it's scary.
We need Romero to stay fit for the rest of the season, as without him in the defence we are as brittle as china.

Because they were isolated. Too often, the ball was played into them without any real prospect of them doing anything with it.
That’s making excuses for them they were poor and were a big part of the problem today

That was as bad a game as I have seen from us this season. Problem is that there have been quite lot of these games this season.

Forster is pish. Slow, cumbersome and completely unagile.

Davies was absolute horse shit as was Dier. Tanganga I thought was the best out of the 3. Perisic got forward well but was awful defensively. Porro hardly went forward and took a touch too many on many occasions.

Hojbjerg followed up last week with a shit performance. Bentancur is out for the season.

Kulu was anonymous, Son was absolute horse wank and Kane didn't look interested. The subs fuck me off. Richarlison is feeding off 10 min cameos - the time to make changes was half time and we didn't.

How can we perform like we did against City without Conte and then so abysmally today with Conte? Fuck knows. The season can end now if it likes as there is going to be little change to this until then.

If we are to play contes way w need 2 defensive midfielders - look at liverpools defence since they gave up on midfield - so similar to us

Mentality around the club is awful. Having beaten City last week, we had a real chance to go above Newcastle and really start putting some pressure on them. They’ve dropped lots of points recently so today was such an opportunity to crank it up.

Yet we, as a team (players & management) let today happen. Lots of poor individual performances, bad attitude, no reactions from the bench.

I include Conte in this criticism. They’re all to blame today. We hear lots about Champions League football, qualification etc yet when it matters, the mentality is totally weak.

Tanganga, Dier Forster and Davies started for Spurs today.

Let that sink in.

Figure out which top six or seven side would seriously consider any of that lot an improvement to their current starting eleven?

Summary of entire match thread:

Everything bad about Spurs’ performance was down to the poor intrinsic quality of individual Spurs players, with digressions to the individual failings of the manager.

Leicester had no say in the matter. Their tactics and ability had no influence on the match.

It’s a team game and there are two teams on the pitch.

But with Romero playing. Which shows you what a difference having a class center back has. The lower standard defenders play better when he is having one of his all action performances and Dier (who should be a squad player at best) only plays well when he has good performers around him. The back 3 we fielded today was criminal and not good enough. Sanchez needs to go and one of Davies or Lenglet, probably the latter as he is a loan. Then get a top class LCB and CCB (with the latter being able to cover for Romero too ideally. With Udogie already to come in and Porro that looks 1000x better.

But but Romero is a legend, so much so he stupidly got sent off, and then was sorely missed the next game (due to being sent off) where we got pumped by an average team legends don’t cost you points. His absence didn’t help today did it. What a legend eh.

I'm watching the game back, only gonna watch 10 mins or so but I immediately noticed somethings that need serious work.

The defensive line. It lacks a consistent shape.

With a back four the 2 CBs will stay level and the FBs will only drop past them should they need to cover.

For us, one second Dier is at the base, next moment Tanganga is deepest, next Davies and Tanganga are deeper and Dier is pushing out, leaving CFs onside.

Then Porro is having to consistently adjust to what line he is supposed to be following. Is Dier where the line is set? Or Tanganga & Dier? Or whoever happens to be deepest or highest?

These images show how it changes consistently.

Porro is adjusted to a back 5 but not with the same players and coach. You can see he has doubts and confusion.

But most importantly, I don't think Dier can play in a back 3 unless someone like Romero is alongside him. He follows his lead.
Davies can but I think he is poor playing the ball out.

Secondly, I recalled a moment when Perisic gave a cheap pass away, look at this reaction.....

What the hell is that?? Hojbjerg throws his arms up...looks at Perisic twice, Perisic just stands there not reacting. In the meantime, Son, Kane and Kulusevski all had a run on and could have outnumbered the Leicester defence had the team pushed up at that moment.

Also, when Leicester play that pass forward they are immediately in between our defensive lines.

This was a recurring theme throughout the game, we simply are not compact enough when we lose the ball, either the team are not retreating enough or there is very immediate press on the opposition.

Not hard to see why we are conceding so much.

If Poch had had Klopp's backing its entirely plausible that we'd have won the league at least once and possibly a champions league, given he very nearly managed that on a shoestring. Klopp's done fine but in the same time frame as Poch Klopp got Allison, VDV, Mane, Matip, Robertson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijnaldum, Salah, Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri to mention but a few.

Just for the comparison, here's Poch's signings in that same period.

Pau Lopez, Nkoudou, Sissoko, N'Jie, Fazio, Davinson, Gazzaniga, Foyth, Llorente, Aurier, Moura, Clarke, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Vorm,
Mauricio Pochettino also got Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Heung-min Son and Victor Wanyama, They all contributed greatly to us challenging for the Premier League and Champions League.

I mean you could twist it and say while Mauricio Pochettino was signing those players. Klopp got Steven Caulker, Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan, Dominic Solanke, Takumi Minamino, Sepp van den Berg. Things like this always contain selective reasoning.

Nobody expected Alli to achieve what he did so quick, and most fans wrote Son off like a Bergwijn after first season

It baffles me to this day how Conte didn’t want Maddison.

Simply can’t get my head around it.
