Regularly missing out on those CL spots is really going to fuck us in the long run, financially and in regards to attracting players like him. Can't go on.

We've had Champions League in the past and it's never made too much of a difference. It might in some instances, but normally it's code for "a club bigger than Spurs" or "I want loads of money". The reality is when you're after a Champions League calibre player, you're up against the biggest club's in Europe who are also chasing his signature, and that's where we have often lost out. Even with CL, we're not seen in the same way as all the other big clubs in Europe - which is understandable - and we can't offer ridiculous money to them either to muscle our way in. It's such a tricky position to be in.

No reason why it should "fuck us". Perversely, it might even help us.

It is inevitable that we will be rejected by some targets who will only join a current CL club. But for every Torres, there is a Romero. And besides, buying from the top echelon of players isn't what won us Champions League status anyway. We have fared much better when we have bought smartly rather than ambitiously.

Time to rediscover that mojo.

How many people have turned us down ?
The Paratici shotgun method is a lot less neg PR when you are the biggest club in your country and one of the top 5 clubs in Europe (media respect wise not necessarily monetarily). When you're Spurs it just means you get a lot more "thanks but no thanks".

Probably unrelated but decent fee paid by Villarreal.

Remember when we qualified for the Champions League....and didn't sign anyone?
:woot:

Yeah, imagine who we might have had if we did though. Part of the situation we're in now is because of that years failure to sign anyone.

It's better to be in the tent pissing out...
