I wonder if it's even a domestic rival that may have turned his head, could be any one of a number of top clubs across Europe desperate to improve their academy, or to bring in more youngsters. Certainly plenty of teams in Europe, America and Asia, that mostly rely on older stars and local talent but that have TONS of money. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he was off to America or China.

Daily Mail:

Tottenham’s transfer maestro Paul Mitchell has handed in his resignation at the club.

Mitchell, their head of recruitment, was contracted until 2017 but is set to leave after serving out a significant notice period, ending his two-year spell in north London.

Mitchell, 34, has not been short of offers in the past and has previously opted to stay at White Hart Lane, but has decided to move on. It is understood that the reason for his resignation is not related to Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham declined to comment.

My theory: they used him for his IP and created their own black box. Now that they have that in place they don't need him anymore.

When I think he deserves it :)

It's a bluff - don't believe him, guys. He's just trying to catch us off guard, the minute there's a shred of proof Levy was within 200 yards of Mitchell in the last fortnight, like a fullmoon to a Werewolf, A&C will "turn" :shifty:

Sam didn't tweet that, it was a Spurs supporting pub disc jockey who thinks he's itk

He really is a chancer isn't he? Literally the moment this broke on Twitter he tweets saying he had heard Mitchell wasn't getting on with someone yesterday. Utter Hampton

That's disappointing. I am hopeful it's just another contract thing and he just wants to be paid more. I think it's a team effort that has brought us this far, and i think he also deserves a pay increase for what he has been doing for the club.

I think Poch trust Mitchell and his team... U might be able to steal his technique of scouting, but it's sometimes, some people just have the ability spot people that can perform in a particular role.

Oh well... We'll see.

I wonder if he hasn't found his role a little crowded with Rob Mackenzie as head of technical scouting, Rebecca Caplethorn as head of football operations and John McDermott in charge of all coaching and player development below the first team. Are there really three jobs? By all accounts Rob Mackenzie is top notch, let's hope he stays (and perhaps gets greater responsibilities).

People are making way to big a deal out of this. And didn't Pochettinos title change from "head coach" to "manager" when he signed his new deal? Might be related to Pochettino taking on a larger role at the club.

Nah, be astounded if they are working that way. Nothing about his signings suggest that we are using advanced stuff. I think he probably got a bit sidelined and bored.

Be interesting if we promote from within we have lots of highly rated people at Spurs.

Rob Mckenzie and David Webb for instance if we look outside then Tony Henry is doing an amazing job at West Ham and got players like Stones for Everton.

I don't think it will make much difference. Someone else will come in and we'll continue as we were.

Like I say, probably 2+2=5, but...

We bought N'jie a year ago, presumably on Mitchell's advice. Now this Summer we're seemingly trying to move him on and bringing in N'koudou. All seemed to be progressing very nicely (ITK and media all were on the same page, from what I remember), he was supposed to be over for a medical, and then suddenly it all comes to a screeching halt.

Now we see that Mitchell has resigned after working a significant notice period. Maybe that notice period corresponded with that deal? Maybe he was of the belief that N'jie was still the right signing? I have no idea what happens behind the scenes, but it doesn't seem like a huge jump to suggest that a transfer being somewhat bizarre in it's completion and our Head of Recruitment resigning might be linked. At least a little bit.

My only concern - and it is limited - but I like a good mix of talent in the player recruitment area. I think old-fashioned scouting, and gut feels, should be counter-acted by data-driven analytics. Neither alone are sufficient, but I worry if we run off the data side, we lose a bit of that counterbalance.

Very saddened by this news if true. I think he was the missing piece and I think some are underestimating his talents. Would be sad to see him go.

However, if he does go I don't think that means there is justification for the new jerk view that Levy is somehow to blame.

Maybe, but outside of making a recommendation, I doubt Mitchell was involved in any of the transfer/contract negotiations. I suspect his involvement would be limited to "I think we should keep Clinton"
