Hi Rovers - opinions vary on here -

for me Gomes is our most important signing of the summer - so you can guess how much I thought Robbo needed replacing - though to be fair he's had a terrible time in his private life apparently - so best wishes to the bloke

You'll see robbo defenders and Virulent robbo bashers here - in fact hang around on this thread - some might be out in force tonight

blackburn fan here..
whats your opinion on paul robinson-my opinion is that he is a good goalkeeper going through a terrible period-maybe a change of club will do him the world of good..are we getting a good goalkeeper??
depends on what paul robinson is going to show up at blackburn...
if it was the paul robinson we purchased from leeds, then you are getting a top class keeper, if its the robinson from last season, then maybe you can buy back Freidel...(sp)

Agree with W11 - we left him totally out in the cold, with no cover on the pitch and no coach off it. I'm more than sad to see him go as i honestly think that, considering his age, what he's achieved so far in his career and his immense shot stopping at close range, it won't take much to get him back up there and i'll be keeping my England keepers jersey from a couple of years ago so i can wear it again in a couple of years from now

Look after him, eh?

Tbh i won't miss Robbo his form in the last two season was poor. And tbh for a premiership Gk to gain weight like he did is pretty shameful.I just hope he turns his career round at Blackburn.

anyway hopefully blackburn can turn robinson into the keeper most fans know he can be-and maybe he could get back to in the england fold..

regarding bentley-i think soon as the fee is agreed-17million, i think he is yours..i think he wants to move to london, and i dont see anyone else interested..about 7million of that 17million will be going to arsenal aswell..

Paul Robinson is a quality keeper but he is mentally finished at Spurs and the damage that is done is beyond repair at the lane. The only way Robbo will get back to his best is by moving to any club. He is still young for a keeper, so whichever team buys him, will be getting themselves a bargain. He is worth £5 million in my opinion despite his poor form with Spurs.

I think he'll do well at Blackburn in front of a solid defence. He didn't perform any worse than our defence last season (until Woody and Hutton arrived, or when King played of course.) His confidence was shot because of our dreadful defending. I feel sorry for him, for all the criticism he received for England too. I hope he does well again and i like Blackburn myself. I think Ince will do well for them.

I take it we've accepted less than we intended with Blackburn, then we would have from another club, so we can sign Bentley for a more reasonable price?

I think you guys have got a bargain in Robinson, yes his form has been bad but that's mainly due to being crucified by the press for that fluke England goal which was in no way his fault.

He will get his form back and he is a very loyal player who tends to have a good rapport with the fans.

With regards to the Bentley deal it's a choker knowing we are helping to finance the gooners spending but that's football I guess. What is your opinion of Rovers outgoing player?

The pressure of being labelled a liability for England was too much for him to handle.

What he needs is to be out of the spotlight and to rebuild his career (much like James did)

Blackburn (with all due respect) are not a big a public spectacle as we are and he will be given the time and space there to regain his form (if as I assume he is no longer Englands number one whilst there)

Moving away from Liverpool and being Englands keeper for a while certainly did David James no harm, he is back now and in the best form of his career. I hope the same happens for Robbo.

Well its all become very sad for Robbo at spurs. It started with so much promise, definitely a fans favorite for his personality. He seemed very much a Mr Spurs. I wish him all the very best and hope he plays shite against us! Good Luck Robbo.

Just a couple of points regarding this:

Firstly, we only conceded around the tenth highest number of shots in the league, yet every other keeper who faced more had a higher save ratio.
Ask those keeper's in the bottom half of the table what having no cover is like and yet they still perform.

Secondly, Cerny had to operate under exactly the same conditions yet only conceded something like 14 in 13 games compared to Robbo's 47 in 25.

Robbo's poor performances over the last two seasons, and especially the last one, has nothing to do with coaches or the defenders in front of him it's just down to him.

we couldn't have agreed Robinsons sale without agreeing Bentley. If we do a player exchange for Bentley the scum would get a smaller cut. I am certain if we offer 12m plus Robbo we can get Bentley

Robbo's poor performances over the last two seasons, and especially the last one, has nothing to do with coaches or the defenders in front of him it's just down to him.

But the conditions weren't exactly the same. Factor in the performance and composition of the defence in the games in which we conceded a shedload. Against the Brummies, Robbo was left horribly exposed, pulled off a couple of sensational saves and really couldn't do too much about the ones that went in. Against Chelsea Cole ripped Chimbonda an extra one and Robbo was left with little chance. Against the Barcodes, apart from the free-kick , he didn't have much chance.

I certainly wouldn't deny that he was all over the place at times last season, particularly the dithering when it came to coming out to claim crosses and corners, but for two seasons we've had a chicken-and-egg situation. If we'd had a stable defence, Robbo might have got through his yips. We also have the vulnerability to long shots myth. Here's how a top keeper deals with long shots:

[yt]MYH0-TjwdS8&NR=1[/yt]

Oops! No he doesn't.

Not a criticism of Gomes, just a demonstration of how, given space, an opposition player with an opportunistic eye for goal and a meaty shot will beat any keeper most of the time. Super Ed's and Sneijder's efforts were no better than some of the shots Robbo 'should' have saved according to the muppet brigade.

Rovers, he's out of the England limelight. The media campaign against him, based on a fuck-up that was Neville's, not Robbo's, was a major factor in his slump. Up until the Villa game he was OK, apart from one bad misjudgement against Arsenal. The Villa game was a mare—Robbo comes out to claim an easy cross, and doesn't; he drops it on to Laursen's foot. A few minutes earlier he'd pulled off a fantastic one-handed save after Chimbonda lost Young, but what's going to be all over the back pages next day? You could see him slump from that moment on.

Considering Stoke have reportedly paid up to £6m for our former Number Three, who barely played for Sunderland, you've got a steal. Friedel's a huge loss, but if Robbo gets back to what he was for us two years ago, which he could with some TLC from Ince, you'll have a great replacement.

Thank fuck someone else agree that 'that incident' wasn't Robbo's fault.

FFS Neville and the shitty pitch was the whole story. Stupid fucking media and 'muppet brigade' as you call them!!

Have some rep mate.

I'm hoping this whole Robbo thing will end up with us getting Bentley, but with the way transfers are happening who knows!

The ironic thing about that is that Robinson is one of the best in the game at kicking with either foot. I certainly hope he can find his way back to being the keeper he once was and then push on from there.
