Or whatever it was 3? 1 point behind Utd. I don't care I only did this thread so Beats could agree.
Since I put my blinkers on.

Im genuinely worried. That Champions League side had Modric, Bale and VdV in it. For all the money spent the current side doesn't have a single attacking player performing anywhere near those three right now.

Unfortunately mate when you continue to sell your best players, just the nature of the beast, you slot back into your position in the food chain.

so after calming down a bit I will admit that I need some fecking perspective. My mate, who is a baggies fan, reminded me that Ferguson went through far worse. I googled it just to remind myself. Fergie joined Manu U in 86. He didn;t win the leage till the 90's. In between:

Following this and an early season run of six defeats and two draws in eight games, a banner declaring "Three years of excuses and it's still crap ... ta-ra Fergie." was displayed at Old Trafford, and many journalists and supporters called for Ferguson to be sacked.[51][52] Ferguson later described December 1989 as "the darkest period [he had] ever suffered in the game", as United ended the decade just outside the relegation zone.[53][54]

Seriously guys if you think the current era is similar to the late 80's early 90's and AVB is like AF its not me that needs the perspective ;-)

but we don't know if he is or he isn't yet? Fergie's darkest period came three years in. What length of tenancy does AVB get?

That's one thing I don't blame AVB for. We were in the position where we had the cash to replace Modric with Moutinho (about as good a replacement as we could realistically hope for), and amazingly, Moutinho was very public about how he'd love to play for AVB at Spurs.

Instead we bought some average players and started going backwards.

It's admirable that people are still posting positive threads like this, but I suspect that real perspective is somewhere between the extreme pessimism, and over the top optimism. That place is mid-table.

Football was a different animal back then but to answer your question AVB's time as up when the final whistle went against West Ham as far as a few SC'ers were concerned. So I guess you get silence whilst winning games, disguntlement at a defeat, but two or three defeats and you're out. I reckon the average life expectancy of a Spurs manager is written in Paul Hardcastle's lyrics.

Losing a game is part and parcel of football, playing terrible foobtall and today's result is not acceptable to a lot of spurs fans nor should it be.

Today was hardly a normal game day was it.

Perspective ? We are nearly a 3rd of the way through the season, playing shite football and somehow only only 3 points away from 4th place... How lucky are we to be that close !!
We have the worst goal difference in the top half of the Premier division, cant score a goal from open play for love nor money, yet we have potentially one of the best squads in the premier league...

And the thing that is pissing all of us off is the fact that Arses are top of the table..

In 2011, under the sainted Harry Redknapp, the 3 players you mention lost to City 1-5 at The Lane.

Funny old game.

You forgot to mention we have a manager who is way out of his depth we are waiting for him to be put out of his misery.

Perspective: Massive wasted potential with squad full of quality players. Bring in Hiddink to save the season with asst Freund...

Spurs not performing well since last spring, so it is time... :pompous:

The one bit of perspective I want to provide is that we're still only two points off fourth and four off second. Things look bad because of two awful games and a less than inspiring start to the season performance-wise, but I really think people are over-reacting a bit and I genuinely think that this group of players and the manager can turn this around.

Just 2?!!!!

The fact remains that very little has changed. This isn't a case of where you can see our attacking potential and results are going against us and some are impatient and are lashing out. The problems continue to persist irrespective if we lost 2 nil today, or 6.

The question is how long are we prepared to wait until it does. I'm prepared to wait but we have to see some evidence of change very soon.

Perspective is about appraising the situation objectively, not burying our heads in the sand.

Agree, but AVB seems to have his head firmly buried up his own mindbogglingly stubborn ego!!!! HE is the only one in this universe that won't accept that HIS tactics/system/formation, or however you wish to describe it, just isn't working and lately it's starting to look like the players are rapidly losing faith.

I, for one, was not entirely comfortable with AVB's appointment, my choice would've been Martinez or Rodgers and I've said it before on this site, Levy's judgement when it comes to appointing a new manager has to be seriously questioned!! I'm not calling for AVB's head on a plate here, he may prove Levy right, but he's gonna have to pull a procession of rabbits out the hat now or Levy WILL pull the trigger!!!!

He finished 2nd in the league in his second season at United.

Besides, football has changed a lot since the 80's/early 90's. Now if you drop out of the top four, unless you have a big financial backer that's willing to burn money it's incredibly hard to get back in. Look at Leeds, Everton and Newcastle. The main reason we got back in the top four was because of Chelsea's collapse under AVB.

If we don't make top four this season it's going to be incredibly hard to break in as I don't see Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd dropping as many points next season.

2nd game of the season. And after 12 games they had scored 26. We've got 9 so far this season.

That's the thing. We're not "just into the season". We can't wait for it to gel any longer. Next week it's December. We've played nearly a 1/3 of the season. We've been utter shite for almost all of it and there's no sign at all that it's going to get better.
