I thought he put in a bloody good shift last night.

Good goal, should have squared the cross to VDV in the first half, but generally a striker would try and attempt that (certainly pav would of!).

I totally agree with the first point in bold, he worked hard last night and caused alot of problems, so did the whole team. On the second point, if he had hit the target you couldn't have the hump, but he shinned it wide, personally I think Defoe, Pav and Keane would all have shot in that position, but I also believe all of them would have hit the target. Anyway for a player as selfless as Crouch it was a surprisingly poor and selfish thing to do.

I thought Crouch was right to shoot there, it was a golden opportunity and a bad miss.

He did, however, play well, and selflessly, and deserved his goal. I hope it gives him some confidence because, even if he isn't my cup of tea, he's a better striker than he's shown lately and need to start showing that.

He did score from open play twice last night, don't forget, following excellent movement to be in position to do so, Defoe-like.

The fact that Bale ran the ball over the dead ball line before crossing meant it was disallowed but Crouch just keeps confounding critics all his career - particularly for England and in club European competition.

Right now, we need our strikers to believe in themselves, because with Defoe out we've definitely struggled for goals. Crouch clearly hasn't believed in himself lately, but hopefully last night will improve that. Like I said, he's a better striker than he shown recently and he needs to assert that now, starting with Bolton this Saturday.

I dont see the big thing with him taking the shot on in the first half, he was three yards out and not a striker in the world would have done different. It was the lack of tekkers that was awful.

Rafa Benitez once said Crouch covers more distance then Lampard and Gerrard, is this a ringing endorsement of Crouch?

NO. It just shows you statmongers how much bollocks there is to be found with stats.

he must have meant lying down!

Spot on Shanks. He had the ball in the net twice, and I can't knock him for shooting. He had to keep his eye on the ball so couldn't tell what was going on around him.

thought his hold up was still very hit and miss last night (probably 60-40 against)

Did one piece of skill down on the right touch-line, which got every one cheering, but then subsequently tried it the next 3 times he got on the ball (and lost possession)

I think Defoe and Dawson are meant to be back in around three weeks. There was a post on here yesterday from POTL.
