I agree with this.
But I dont buy the common media crap, that Levy "leaving it to last minute" rubbish. I think selling clubs always hold on in main to get the best price. Levy has done some great last minute business with Vdv and Dempsey. But bit Fulham's arms off with Dembele buy, more like a smash and grab that one.

My only thoughts on the current squad is Gylfi does not light my candle - but he may grow on me.
Verts does look a little vulnerable - may need to use Caulker who is more Premier savy till Verts settles and use Daws.
I think Levy clearly does leave things to the last min too much, and I think it clearly does cost us.

True the media and us as fans may blow it somewhat out of proportion and neglect factors such as agents, selling clubs moving goal posts whatever and over react (as we see many knee jerk threads here and half time match day booing already)

In my opinion though Levy clearly does play the transfer window game TOO much and it clearly has cost us, quite dramatically as many of his gambles have not paid off.

2 winter windows in a row we failed to bring in strikers who could and probably would have brought us CL football, especially last year with the commanding lead we held over Arsenal....what would a Cisse or a Jelavic done for us in the run in when we were so very goal shy?

As with this JM deal, Porto may well have played hard ball, the player himself may well have been difficult to get a deal concluded with.....but to me these resoultions could have been reached with time to spare so that if an agreement was simply not going to happen we could have looked else where and brought in someone else.

Now, as with the window when we had CL football, as with the previous two winter windows and as with the year we sold Berba and Keane and ended up with Pav and Campbell I 100% feel that Levy's brinkmanship in the transfer market has resulted in us being left short in key positions and the upshot will be reflected in league performance one way or another.

I'm not anti Levy, I think he is a good chairman and I would not want him out but I do think we as a club would be better served with a DOF handling the actual transfers. Someone who could consult both Levy and AVB before determining who to sign, someone who had clearly defined budgets and was simply left to work within the approved constraints.

I think if we had a quality DOF we would make more of the Modric and Berbatov signings and see less last gasp failed JM, Aguero, Rossi hype....and more importantly we would probably see less occasions where we drop points early doors as a result of incomplete transfer activity or miss our on targets all together and end up short without at least signing our second or third choice option in a vital area as we so often do right now.

Anyway sorry, I am clearly steering this thread away from the general football weekend and into another transfer window/Levy debate....perhaps we should either agree, agree to disagree or discuss in a more appropriate thread

Game changed when Southampton decided to sit back and defend the lead. They looked comfortable before that.

Such an idiotic thing to do - even though we're controlling the game, lets change the dynamics of the game to something we are unsure of so we can "defend our lead." You have to laugh, if they just continued to do what they are doing, they would have won and maybe would have scored again.

All I can say is thank Christ that RVP isn't an Arsenal player any longer!

Really think that, with the players they've brought in, had they held onto Van Persie they would have made a serious title challenge this season. Oh well!

Defending a lead rarely works unless you're Arsenal under George Graham. Yet teams try it all the time.

Managers tend to try and be too clever when they take a lead and try to defend the lead instead of continuing to do what got them in a winning position in the first place.

Is RVP the best striker in the world?

He's got to be there or there abouts!

That's really true quality and strength or character to go on to score a hattrick, equaliser and winning goals after missing what would have appeared to be such a vital penalty.

After he missed it the Arsenal fans were probably readying their "no you can't have your money back" gifs and photoshopped images.....now what?

Just glad he's not with them anymore. Giroud doesn't look anywhere close to his class.

That said I think I would rather have Tevez at his best than RVP.

That threads dead now, bloody RVP . We will continue this at another time. Levy or maybe more his boss will not trust others with the wallet. He did Gylfi early and that was a wrongun for me  he may get better. But I bet Hoffenheim could not beleieve their luck!

If rumours that we were watching Falcao before he went to Porto but decided to sign Crouch instead are true.........

Selling our best player to United has to be the single worst decision in Arsenal history. #IvanTheTerrible
