He’s a very average footballer and always has been. It’s now back to back errors, he is always capable of that. He’s one of the places who needs a big upgrade come summer.

Typical Davies really. You'll get a couple of decent games followed by the usual average/crap. He won't be a starter next season and hoping we move him on in the summer. Thanks for having a good attitude, training well and being a good all round pro for the last 8 years but you can head for the door now.

I get more frustrated with him than the other players because he has this reputation of being a no nonsense pro and yet he produces absolute calamity errors that are as bad as anybody else produces. Like yeah we know Sanchez has a mistake in him but his thread is daily updated, Winks isn't the best midfielder yet his thread is constantly updated and yet Davies who is meant to just be solid, couldn't be less solid if he tried. I expect more from the players who are meant to be the experienced pros yet he produces mistakes you'd expect from a frightened youth prospect. He finds himself off balance and falling over and it leading to goals on more than the odd occasion, he's constantly found out positionally and when he has the ball in that LCB position where you're meant to provide overload, he's dreadfully slow and needs about 4 touches for every 1 that other players need. I thought in Dier's absence that Davies would be the one taking leadership in the backline with his experience but he hasn't whatsoever.

Obviously we're planning on upgrading in the summer, I appreciate that but it's a concern now that we have no other options. Tanganga possibly, went through a horrid January but there was a good or two recently he was LCB and he actually looked decent. I don't know, I'm hoping Dier fixes Davies but as I say I just expect more from him. he's meant to be one of the players managers count on.

Davies is an interesting one. Usually I’d dismiss him as an okay squad player that can come in every now and then, but why shouldn’t we upgrade on a squad player?

Off the top of my head, Liverpool have VVD, Matip, Gomez and Konate at CB. Only two can play, and I’d very much say that all four could argue they should be starting. It’s not really good enough to say ‘Davies is a good back-up CB’ anymore, because he just isn’t.

nice lad, though

Yes, I know, Liverpool are much better etc, but their recruitment generally follows this process. And it’s helped them to where they are.

Realistically, he should be nowhere near the starting 11. Just because he has experience in a back 3, doesn't make him the best choice there.

Just 1 of a number of others, who are currently in the 11 & should be NOWHERE near it.

He needs to be replaced in the first team but he's more than good enough as a back up LCB.

If we can find a better player willing to spend most of the season on the bench then replace by all means but I won't be worried if he's still here next season.

This is what bothers me at times about Spurs. I like Davies, & I wish him well wherever he ends up. However, he isn't a good backup. When he gets his chances, he fucks up.

Margins are fine in this league, & he isn't good enough anymore.

Davies is not a good enough back up. Top teams have far better back up CBs than Davies.

He's shown for many years that he's never been good enough to play regularly for us, both him and the club need to move on.

Would he make another top six side? No. That’s the minimum bar we should be setting when looking at players who make our XI.

Davies is a likeable guy. He puts in effort and seems to follow instruction well, but he is, unfortunately, the embodiment of what's wrong with the team: average squad player who is a nailed-on starter and should have been sold 3 years ago. We all know the other names joining him. The only thing we can hope for is that Conte sticks around long enough for us to upgrade on these players--assuming Levy will provide the funds and Paratici can find players that aren't just in Serie A. More EPL-experienced players would make a nice change.

His improvement has been overstated tbh

he’s done better at lcb than Lb, but that isn’t exactly a high bar

Fuck me, 2 bad games and he's wrote off again. He's been very good since Conte arrived, anyone saying differently here is talking through their arses. The last 2 matches he has been poor, maybe that's because Romero's came back in, Dier out etc. Let's give him a few more games before writing off again.

People say he’s a solid 7/10 but I’ve never once seen him have a 7/10 game, very very average
Typical football fan knee jerk fickle reply. He's had plenty of 7+ games. Just go have a look through this thread... Some football fans have the memory of a Goldfish.

He's not the best, never has been, but has been a good squad player for many years.
