Suppose if he is the one Mourinho want's then need to back him. Doesn't look the silkiest or sharpest of players to me but more a functional type (not necessarily a bad thing). If he is the one and he arrives, sounds like he attributes that will aid the team in Kane's absence but alongside that really hope he carries a consistent goal threat.

Not seen this guy to form a judgement but suppose for the ones who have watched him, what are his strengths?

I know nothing more about him than 99% of the people on here but I did notice in the YT compilation I saw that he has an unselfish streak and an eye for the threaded pass. Add that to goals, good pace, size and strength and, at the very least, you've got a decent player there.

I know nothing about the guy. Watched that YouTube video posted here. He looks like he knows where the goal is. If Jose wants him and he's able to get 20-25 goals a season for us, taking our reliance on Kane and Son then I don't really care about anything else.

If you want some proper transfer analysis using the forum as a way of knowing who we're gonna sign then look no further..

Having a target like Daka come out of nowhere and the forums going wild only for it to end up a shattered dream followed by a new target which has a large portion of the fanbase underwhelmed is a good indicator that we're seriously in for him. Now this alone isn't enough as there's usually a few targets who don't want (then do want when we haven't signed anyone).

However when you dig deeper you see we've had both Rob and A&C come in and be dismayed at the reaction on the forum followed by one of our prized ITK's also in disbelief at the sheer stupidity in the thread. These are your real prime indicators that something is seriously afoot here and we can expect the signing on the 23rd of September.

Daka and Eduoard do seem to be electric and very exciting, granted. But at the end of the day any player coming from an inferior league to a team in the PL with pressure and big ambitions.

Daka may roll defenders easily in Austria but in the PL it could be a rude awakening for him. The truth is it's really hard to say.

The biggest concern I have is that he’s in his mid-20s and only ever had one decent season. You see strikers go through a purple patch all the time then revert to the mean. Two years ago Torino were quoting €100m for 25-year-old Belotti coming off the back of his breakout season, now we’ve got quotes from Torino supporters in his thread saying they hope he doesn’t sign a new contract. It’s a common story.

That doesn’t mean he *can’t* be a really good striker who just happened to blossom much later in life than is normal. Certainly looking at the likes of Drogba and Jimenez that does happen sometimes as well.

If we sign him I’ll be worried we’ve signed a one-season wonder, but ultimately the most important thing is that Jose rates him and he’s a warm body who can play in the Europa group stage and domestic cups so that we aren’t running Harry into the ground.

Why is he being compared to Janssen?

Both players have only played one season in a weaker league. I wasnt being negative about him just that the club need to be care after doing similar with janssen. It’s a reasonable question if you think about it?

No idea why @Trix needs to be rude to me. If he knows how much better he is then fine let’s wait and see. Any striker in is better than we have at the moment. I’d even rather of had Janssen still here last season that nobody.

I am curious as to why we would keep this under the radar. I would have thought that the reason the striker is being kept ‘under the radar’ is because he would be wanted by various clubs or he’s a big name. Oh well

I honestly can’t work out why people want a striker from the Austrian league (who they have definitely never seen play), but are turning their noses up here. Bizarre.

I can actually see this happening.

I live in Lisbon and coach here too, so watch games and hear opinions regarding a lot of players.

Now, I know that Benfica moved heaven and earth to bring in Jorge Jesus. Many people hear were doubting Jesus coming back, mostly because of money, but I'd heard from two people I have as clients and are very very close to the Benfica president/board that Benfica were putting out all the stops and promised him big spending.

However, even though Benfica are the richest club here, they aren't exactly lying in a pool of cash. So far they have bought Darwin, Cebolinha, Waldschmidt, Gilberto and Pedrinho. Spending way more than anyone expected or felt they could.

They've hardly sold anyone. Therefore they need certainly need to.
Taarabt, Florenrino, Tavares and Grimaldo have been linked with moves away but they won't bring in substantial money and Jesus wants Grimaldo to stay.

Therefore they need to offload one of their prized assets. It won't be Dias, Pizzi or Grimaldo and Jesus will want the likes of Jota to stick around. With Pedrinho, Cebolinha and Darwin coming in it leads to one conclusion. Selling Vinicius.

Jesus also likes to play with a striker who runs the channels rather than a big CF.

There were rumours earlier in the summer that they were in financial difficulties and so may need to sell some players.

Was not expecting some of these responses tbh.

Jose knows more about football than all of us, so if he wants him, then I do too.

Actually, even just talking about YouTube highlights, I already thought he is a more suitable option than Daka and the others when I watched the video after somebody mentioned him yesterday. He does provide something we lacks, while Son (when playing as a striker) already possesses the standout abilities of many other rumoured targets.

In fairness to those saying he has had one decent season, the season before last he started the season on loan at Rio Ave bagged 8 in 14 and got a move to Monaco on loan for the second half of the season (admittedly his numbers don't look great there).

I think when you take into account he only made his debut 3 years ago he has shown some solid numbers in the Portuguese top tier over the season and a half he has played there.

Also with his size and the brief clips I've seen of him he is more than just a goalscorer. With Kane, Son, Dele etc that can only be a good thing.

Think assuming anyone with reservations about the signing is just an idiot with a YouTube tab open is a little unfair tbh.

A lot of signings don't work out, so it follows that not all of the players a club is linked with will be world beaters if they make the move. Not all targets must be met with incessant positivity - its not like the fans who maybe don't rate him as much will be booing him if he signs, for the most part people are just trying to evaluate as best they can and posting their opinion, which is the point of a forum.

From my POV, I'm no expert on this guy. I probably only watched 4/5 Benfica last year, so I'm going exclusively on the opinion of my Benfica-supporting mate when I say I think he'd be more of a risk at the prices mentioned, and I'm also personally not a fan of agent-led transfers, which this might be given the favourable Doherty signing and Jose's links to Mendes. If he comes I hope he'd make my mate look like a fool and smashes it.
