As gutted as I’d be to lose Eriksen, if he doesn't sign by the end of the season we should sell him early in the summer. The Dele and Kane contracts clearly show that we’re paying wages to keep top talent, so if he’s not signing it’s either because he wants to play for a bigger club, or because he wants Alexis style mega wages. There is little we can do about either of those things.
Utd couldn’t keep Cristiano Ronaldo, Liverpool couldn’t keep Suarez or Coutinho, so I don’t blame the club if we can’t keep Eriksen, nor did I when we couldn’t keep Berbatov or Bale. Footballers are blessed to have a unique gifts, and the best players moreso, but they have a finite time within which to maximise that gift. Sometimes we just need to accept that their plan doesn’t match what we would like and be grateful to have seen them at their best.
We recovered from losing Berbatov, we recovered from losing Modric, we recovered from losing Bale. I hope we don’t lose Eriksen, but if we do then we will recover.
For.the most part I agree. But playing devils advocate there are players that, certainly in the short to medium term we couldn't replace or recover from. Carrick was the biggest loss to spurs imo. Left a gaping hole in arguably the most important part of the pitch.
Similarly, Eriksen doesn't really have an equal or a suitable understudy in the team. We played well without him, however, it just means a different approach to how Poch sets up. But momentum is so important, which is why keeping established and clever players in this set up is so important.
Ultimately, succession planning and contingencies are important. Levy and poch are not stupid. I'm sure they will be working a strategy for.if Eriksen does depart. Which I sincerely hope not.
