Yup. In all likelihood, he either goes to Real for £40m (or so) now, or he waits for a year and goes for free
Anything else relies on him having a change of heart and deciding he wants to do us a favour. I just can't see it, which is such a shame
He won’t decide he “wants to do us a favour”.
But it’s still possible that he might decide at any point in the coming year that it’s in his interest to sign a better, extended contract. It’s not as though no case could be made for it, depending on how things turn out both at home and in Madrid.
I’m not saying it’s probable, but it’s certainly not inconceivable.
