Well it is more of a reflection that better players will generally cost more. There might be a reason clubs are willing to sell players for more reasonable fees
Someone better return bentancur, purely based on him costing peanuts.

Don't shoot the messenger!

Player ‘absolutely prioritises’ transfer to Tottenham – Already has ‘pre-agreement’ with Spurs for 3-year deal

Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season and the north London club have been trying to buy him this summer.

On Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo reported that everything suggested the defender would move to Spurs before Al-Nassr showed up to sign him. It was also stated they are willing to offer him a big salary.

Sport state the La Liga side are pushing the 28-year-old to move to Saudi Arabia after receiving an offer from Al-Nassr. However, he prefers to join Tottenham.

The Frenchman isn’t in favour of moving to the Middle East and ‘absolutely prioritises’ to return to the Premier League side. It’s said the centre-back has a ‘pre-agreement’ with Ange Postecoglou’s side for a three-year deal.

Barcelona are in a hurry to close the defender’s sale and are demanding €15m. Al-Nassr are willing to meet their request while Tottenham ‘don’t want to pay that amount’.

It’s claimed Spurs have made a ‘huge effort’ to take care of Lenglet’s salary and cannot pay €15m on top of that to buy him.

Spurs face Barca in the friendly tie next week and Sport suggest it’s possible a solution could be found then.

The report says Harry Kane’s potential sale to Bayern Munich is the ‘main problem’ for the English club and it has been ‘delaying all their market efforts’, including a deal for Lenglet

I've got no problem with Lenglet. He was better than Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga etc last season and there will be games where we're not under pressure defensively and his passing range will be a big plus for us. As squad depth for a low cost I'd be quite happy to have him for another year.

I think the fear is more him in Ange's highline. I too don't think he was that bad in a back three last season. However, playing him in a pressing back four could be disastrous.

Well, hopefully we don't need to do that, and there's nothing to say you absolutely have to push up to the halfway line.

That's just how Ange sets up though, and if we know anything, it's that he has ultimate conviction in the way he plays. Lenglet would be so exposed in Ange's high line, just like he was in Barca's.

Accepting mediocre players like him is the problem. I’d rather have an older pro with 18 months left him, or a good prospect. Lenglet had a 1 season audition and for me, showed zero reason why we should spend any amount of money on him

Exactly this, he's better than dier but if we get rid of dier, Sanchez and tanganga he will be the next one we're saying we need to get rid of. Youd like to sign players that can be better than what you have so you improve.

Absolutely spot on, whats the point of Lenglet on big wages being 4th choice. Need younger players to gain squad experience for succession planning. Likewise why sign Kessie for 15m when you could get Scott for 20-25m. Would end up getting far better value over a longer period of time and who knows might end up with a top player.

Glad looks like we aren’t getting him.

He was an ‘ok’ player and still would be if we re-signed him but he’s nothing special, he’s not particularly young, doesn’t really suit ange’s style that well and it would feel like we aren’t moving forwards if he came back.

Fresh start please.
