"Lenglet Move To Spurs Imminent"

Clement Lenglet will leave Barça in the next few hours. Today there is a summit meeting between Barça, Tottenham and the player's entourage to finalise the player's contract with an agreement between the clubs already closed at the expense of the centre-back giving the green light to the operation. Lenglet, who spoke to Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, was hesitating but finally gave his arm in the opposite direction last Friday and now it is a question of squaring all the figures because the Blaugrana club wants to save the whole of the player's salary.

If nothing strange happens, the transfer should be made official in the next few hours. The French centre-back has not yet presented himself for medical checks at Barça as he is on leave, as is the case with some of his other team-mates. Riqui Puig and Neto, who had permission, have gone to the sports city, but Lenglet will not be in Barcelona but the idea is that he will join Tottenham training immediately.

The loan will be for a single season and the option to buy will be worth more than ten million euros. Lenglet, finally, has decided to join a Champions League team where he will be an undisputed starter. The Frenchman was waiting for another option such as Juventus to come up, but the market is at a standstill and he has opted to give Tottenham the OK after Conte's sporting interest. He will have minutes, he will be able to revalue himself and he will gain options to play the World Cup in Qatar with France if his performance is optimal.
Not sure about the ‘undisputed starter’ bit!

He might be in for a surprise, especially if it’s the last 2 years Barca player we get, rather than the Sevilla and first 18 months of Barca player.

If we don't get another lcb would be surprised if Lenglet isn't first choice in quite short order.

Davies is ok defensively and can carry the ball ok but the additional passing range give by Lenglet would aid the team much more, even if we think that he's slightly worse than Davies defensively.

Would also be hopeful that the defensive issues will be alleviated in a three, and with a change of scenery and Conte coaching. Think this is a really sensible signing which also allows us to spend big on either a ccb or lcb, whichever is available, as he can cover both imo.

I'm slightly surprised he needed so much persuading to come. You'd think after a year sat on Barca's bench and getting shit from their fans he'd be jumping at the chance to play under a manager like Conte in the CL.

I guess once you've played at one of the so-called 'super clubs' it can be hard to move on, though.

On ability alone, Lenglet can definitely become an undisputed starter very quickly. It's his confidence after a very error-prone last couple of years that is the concern. Honestly, it got to the stage at one point at Barca where you could almost guarantee he'd either give away a penalty, get a red card, or score an own goal, even if only coming on as a late sub. Hopefully the fresh start in a new environment will lead to a return of his very best form, because we'll have an elite centre-back on our hands if it does.

FFS !!

Every feckin thread, every feckin day. Romano this, Romano that. Can't ya just make a thread and take this bollocks there.

It's not even anything new is it, it's the same shit day on day.

I swear, if you came out for a drink with me, I'd get you nothing more than a babycham and I'd sit you next to Brian who works at the hydrographic office.

In fact, scrap that. You'd most probably bore the feck outta him as well.

O Romano, Romano, wherefore art thou Romano ?

Hopefully in his very own thread. Feck off.

Morning all. (y)

Can you clarify what’s frustrating you? I couldn’t quite tell.

If Lenglet is a LCB I’m assuming we’re not signing another in this position as we have Davies there aswell?!?

He’s to cover lcb and ccb apparently. We still want a big money cb signing and are hoping for bremer apparently

Lenglet gives us the opportunity to wait and see how the CB market shapes up. Since he can play LCB and CCB we can still chase after a marquee signing like Bastoni and if/when that completely dies out, we can move on to Bremer without making our squad imbalanced.

Are the players back today? You would think we'll want him in for the start of pre season. Good time to join and meet the non international team mates.

10 million euros buy option is a great deal if he can get back to his best! Could be a great bit of business.

They might let the Jesus announcement die down to give him a decent welcome. Aren't they just doing physical assessments initially anyway today?

I wouldn't be surprised if they had him safely ensconced in the Lodge.

I know we keep being told by inside sources that Lenglet is back-up/rotation but personally I just can't see it. He's had a couple of horrible years at Barca defensively but he's still an elite passer and great at progression of the ball. With the way we're set up and how Conte drills his defenders, I fully see those positives as the overriding factor and he will be in the team ahead of Davies quite quickly.

All non international players are back today, the remainder will follow just before we fly to Korea.
