Yes, on the right. I thought he was pretty awful on the left last week. If its needed ok, but if we have an actual left back I definitely wouldnt be my preference to play Royal on the left, he just doesnt look comfortable

I think you underestimate Davies. He was excellent as a LWB for Conte against West Ham last season. He can play the role if needed

The one thing Davies lacks is pace - so, on a ball over the top, Davies does not have the pace to get back, and if VDV is pushed forward he also won't be in position to cover.

Better to simply slot Davies into Udogie's role, then you still have cover from VDV for balls over the top.

I don't know, I think Davies is actually well suited to coming infield too. Its when he's needed to overlap and play wide he struggles most. He makes some good infield runs, just not as gifted with the ball as Udogie.

What it boils down to for me is that Davies can use the ball quicker from the left than Royal.

Royal has to turn onto his right whereas Davies has always been pretty adept at firing balls first time between the lines or forward.

Still would rather an 80% fit Udogie than either, as there is plenty of time between this and the Chelsea game for a bit of R&R.

If we do start Davies I think we will be fine. Whenever he drifts infield he tends to be really composed. You'd imagine he's been working on that in training so I have no doubts he'll be fine. He's always dependable.

Have him on the bench at the most but definitely start Davies. It's simply not worth the risk of him picking up a worse injury by playing him before he's properly ready and we have adequate cover.

Some posters in this thread seem to have overlooked the fact that Davies has been training under Ange, who will have already worked out the best way to integrate him into the team. I have no worries if Davies starts instead of Udogie.

Davies looked fine when he's played under Ange. I would rather he played and Udogie is fit for Chelsea in 9 days time.

Davies is a solid pro and with Palace being light up front themselves, he'll do a job IMO.

Davies is actually a very good counterpresser as well, so if we pin Palace back as expected he'd be very good at winning any balls as they try to move it forward.

No sign of him in any of the training media from today... It could be nothing but his absence on Friday was supposed to be because it was just too quick of a turnaround after Fulham so I'd be concerned if he's still not back at it.

Got to be very careful with Hamstring tightness, if no tear or injury then might just need to reduce load for a few weeks.
