Ange isnt going to all of a sudden go to back3. He will use Davies & Emerson (incase Porro is also out). Given the nature of opponents we are up against, I actually dont mind the duo - what we may lose in build up play, they will make us solid at the back

There was talk that Postecoglou might go three at the back next season.

With Udogie and Porro out, I wonder if he'll consider it for next week.

I don’t think that’s quite right. There’s been articles analysing his time at previous clubs where, in the second season, he tucks a full back in to make a three, rather than a traditional three at the back shape. If he does try to implement something like that, and that’s a big if, we could see VDV at LB, tucking in, but that’s unlikely when you consider how we rely on his pace when facing balls over the top. We will more likely see Davies come in, which might provide more stability when facing big teams in the run in.

Talk from who?
I was one person theorising it.

I would probably be surprised if Ange switches to it now just before playing Arsenal, but with the Udogie injury and having two weeks on the training ground then I suppose there’s a chance?

Start with a back four of Van De Ven Romero Dragusin and Porro.
Porro continues to invert into midfield as usual whereas Van De Ven tucks in to form a back 3.

Basically build up as a 3-2 instead of the 2-3 that we have been doing.

We’d definitely be more defensively stable for counters with Van De Ven and Dragusin as wide CB’s.

The issue though is that it would put a lot more pressure on Bissouma to take the ball off the defence, and he has really suffering in this aspect recently.

Tucking into a back 3 wouldn’t affect this at all? If anything it would help him as he’d have Dragusin there to do the same thing on his side of the pitch.

Still don’t think Ange will do it though tbh

Davies/Emerson vs Saka/Palmer/Salah

That’s going to be fun…
Maybe we should loan Matty Cash for the Arsenal-game ? 😁😁😁 I'm sure he would do a cracking job marking Saka... (I know, I know... the window is closed)

Emerson and Davies will do as well as we could hope for from backups/rotation guys.

It's more going forwards which this will affect.

We simply have to get 6 pts from Burnley and Sheffield United or this season could end up being a total anticlimax.

Private injury interesting, recover well and back stronger next season Destiny and incredible job this season 👏
Just because we don't know what the circumstances are (as there hasn't been a press conference and won't be until next weekend), doesn't mean it's a "private injury".

The other option would be to go to his Australian sides 3-2-4-1 formation.

That’s the main thing I theorised for next season (Not as a constant formation change, but as an option for certain fixtures)

However we’re currently missing the “Gibbs-White, Baena, Eze, Gudmundsson” type player that I believe Ange wants for this formation.

If we were to line up with it though then I’d imagine it would look like this currently:

Dragusin, Romero, Van De Ven

Bentancur, Bissouma

Porro, Kulusevski, Maddison, Werner

Son

Posted it recently, but this is an article on the formation.

He's been sub standard recently though....of course, he's been great overall.

Must of been affecting his perfornances.

Honestly think a fresh Davies, with all his experience, will see us pretty stable at the back.

But we absolutely need Porro back

I agree. I really like Udogie, he's also fantastic for his age and has had an incredible first season for us. That being said, I haven't spoken too much on it as I know many would see it as being overly-negative, but I think in the last few months I've found a lot of his play to be quite frustrating.

The biggest loss for me is the pace we'll miss against fast attackers, but I also don't think he's been influencing our attacks to the same degree for quite a while, which I respect may not be strictly down to him, as it's been the same on the other side with Porro in all fairness.

I would love to see us adjust in some sort of way, like by having Davies hang further back and allowing us to defend in more of a three when we're in possession so we're less vulnerable when being caught, but I respect that in Ange's mind that may disrupt other aspects of our play and how he wishes our shape, passing patterns etc. to be.
