Everyone was raving over Parrott.

Then Scarlett was the future of the team.

Now Dilan.

Hope the best for them all but interesting how the hive mind is always after the next big hope

Can you elaborate on the "hive mind". Unless you're separating those who follow the 1st team and those who also follow the youth setup as different types of fan?,I would have thought if you support a team, it all falls under support.

Personally the best decision he could make is not to part from the club in totality, sign extension with the club with the proviso they let him go on loan for muched needed game time but also practical experience. PL2 is great format for youths to be nutured, trained and devloped but its still within an academy setting, learning the trade you need to get that proper experience through loans an establisihing your self and proving themselves there. Its only ever a few top talents that get breakthoughs via the their club at a young age recent examples are foden saka etc... most unfornatley are not lucky to get this or have the neccessary complement within their repertoire yet to make it yet especially within the top teams within their respective leagues. They may have skill and talent but they dont have things refined yet in terms of decision making, maybe strength, game managent or general game nous, or the mentality in that top environment yet to help complement their skill and talent and fulfil that next step to the top. Its common sense in many ways, as i said i personally hope he signs an extension and being allowed a loan move to develop further, same goes for other within our e.g. harvey white

Generally forums can generate a bit of an opinion of their own, ie here for a while Kessie was a big get now the narrative is Kessie is not good enough. A few opnion leaders lead a narrative a the majority buy in.

Not saying everyone follows the crowd just that a crowd is often formed.

Also not dissing Dilan

Don't see why you would. He's been played as a CF/RW/ LW/AM throughout his youth career and he's a pretty versatile player. He's certainly developed more tools to contend with bigger players and at this current juncture, it seems like his finishing has gone up another level.
Lol, he got a disagree too!
Sometimes I wonder...

But, isn't that part of the joy of following the youth teams?
Getting excited when one of the has a good run and daring to dream?
I think I've been doing it since Lee Barnard regularly, Sol was probably the first youngster I got excited about!

I'll never learn.

Scored twice in a closed door friendly today. Glad to hear he's back playing, I believe he was one of the U23's who unfortunately contracted COVID. Hopefully, his contract situation will be resolved soon and he can go out on loan.

It would be lovely to see him sign on but he needs a good loan now and has deserved it.

Sad to see Dilan go but we have to trust the experience of Conte and the coaching team in accessing players, sure somebody will name someone but how many youngsters recently let go by Spurs have made a mark in any of the top teams of England or Europe.
Biggest name probably Beckham but that was years ago and according to Wiki his parents were fanatical Man U supporters so I suspect that was always the main destination for him.

They don’t have to make a mark on a top team in Europe for it be a mistake to have lost them. People consistently misunderstand the function of an academy. We’ve let yet another good prospect go for fuck all. It’s shit and we do it over and over. Dilan may or may not have been good enough for Spurs. But we’ll never know due to the lack of opportunities, and we’re getting pennies for him because we never gave him any exposure. Strategy concerning young players has been a joke for years now.

Exactly this.

Skipp is the only player who's development we've nailed recently. A few first team apps very young, a blooding season in the Championship, and had we decided last summer he was up for sale we surely would've got £20m+ for him.

Whereas Markanday is yet another example of a player who never got a chance, never got a loan, and therefore his transfer value is solely based on his contract status and PL2 performances. And with all due respect to PL2, it's not an arena you can really gauge someone's talent from because the qualities of the opposition and your own teammates varies so much from game to game.

We need a network. Chelsea have that part of it absolutely nailed down, their loan network is so vast that even before the recent crop broke into the first team under Lampard their youth players had experience that meant they were extremely valuable assets to the club and could rake in significant transfer revenue even though they weren't deemed good enough to play for the first team.

Would love to see Rovers gain promotion back to the PL, be good to see him make a mark with them.

Any idea if there's a buy back clause?

Great start to the transfer window, not a single player close to coming in and we lose our brightest academy talent for pennies. Levy and ENIC already living up to expectations.

People will literally blame them for anything when it's more or less got nothing to do with them. And before anyone starts I'm not defending Levy but this is probably not up to him.

He wanted first team football, he wasn't going to get much chance here with where we are right now. It would have been nice to maybe extend his contract and loan him out but Markanday probably didn't want that because he'd be back at square one returning from loan.

The mistake is letting Markanday get to the last six months of contract without either first team minutes or a loan opportunity at any point in the last couple of years. It is a structural problem in our youth setup that our players move into U23/PL2 limbo and just stay there. Whether that's Levy's fault, our various academy directors faults, a vision gone wrong, hangups from Poch wanting to keep everybody around instead of gaining loan experience, it's a problem that needs addressing quickly.

But I have no problems with selling him now if he didn't want to sign a new deal. Any money in now is better than none in the summer.
