I got shot down when I posted before that we made a bad mistake giving him a new contract. He is totally unreliable because of his injuries.

He has a fanboy following amongst some fans. Which is way above his contribution to the team.
He started this season well and I was so pleased. Then downhill and here we are again.

Worth noting he contributed well at the start of the season, and I was happy when he signed the extension, but if he isn't fit for the next two games we will have to cut our losses if possible. Just far to unreliable.

I'd imagine there'd still be some interest in Italy.

Talk of cutting our losses for a player who is too injured to sell is irrelevant. In this business of player power he just wouldn't get a sale price and if he did he would refuse to go as it wouldn't come with enough wages to match.

Perhaps a mistake to renew his contract but for all we know there's savings attached to it if he is long term injured. I think it's best to persist with him now considering our current position. Nurture him correctly and you never know...

I feel bad for him, seems to be another serious injury. I understand that people wants us to sell him but I don’t understand why people are so against him and angry at him. Do you think he wants to be injured?

I love Lamela and always will because he’s always given us his all on the pitch and his mentality is exactly what we need, he doesn’t fear anyone and thinks we can compete on the elite level

I’m not angry at him. I think he’s a decent, skillfull player, but not quite good enough even when fit and can be upgraded.

As it is, he can’t even stay fit so unfortunately needs to be moved on.

As for his mentality, no one can fault his commitment and pressing, but he also fluffs a lot of good opportunities which I don’t think is a particularly good sign of great mentality.

I wonder how long will it take for those same fans to turn their backs on Harry Kane or Harry WInks.

The truth is, our fan base simply sucks. Wanting to get rid of Lloris for a few imperfections, or of SIssoko and Llorente before they had a chance to settle in, or of Wanyama because of issues like Lamela's, or of Eriksen for taking his time to consider his options, or of Trippier becacuse Sane is a world class player that got the best from him, or of Danny Rose for having a big mouth, etc.

Maybe, but I can honestly say that I just don't understand it. This culture of fans being ready and eager to stick the knife into any player/coach who doesn't meet their precious expectations is absolutely ridiculous and toxic.

Think this debate's moved on, or should move on, from the typical, pro and anti (insert player name) player debate. This is now a question of how do we deal with a player that is rarely available to play due to fitness issues. FTR, I've always been a huge Lamela fan.

'Stick the knife in' Dramatic..much ? If a player stops contributing to Spurs success then we aren't allowed to say so...on a football forum '' FFS .

This is such an overly emotional position that I wonder if we should get therapy for this lost soul .

Look , for Lamela to sit on our bench...or even in our recovery room , does not mean he's been anything other than incredibly successful.
He is fabulously rich and has reached the very top echelons of the football world...Known worldwide .

Suddenly because fans on a forum opine that he's not contributing to our beloved club , we are cast as metaphoric murderers .
Are you dreaming that Erik reads fan opinions...or cares ? You think fan opinions here have an effect on anything ?

Have a quick word with yourself mate .

The bottom line is that we pay him millions of pounds every year and it is pertinent to ask if we get a fair return for that money, it's got bugger all to do with liking or loathing him

It's not his choice
to be injured
and we have a duty of care
to all our players
sidelined or not.

We don't get this nonsense
on the Harry Kane thread
or the Harry Winks thread
or the Victor Wanyama thread.

Decisions will be made
about his future
at the appropriate time.
I assume that he and the club
are hoping he will return
and contribute again.

This has nothing to do with Coco as a person.
This is to do with his effect on the 'team' both squad and financially.
Everybody would be delighted to see Lamela run out today to take on WH. But he hasn't been injury free for some while, that is what concerns people on here and has nothing to do with personal favouritism 'I hope'.
We are low on fit players and cannot allow his unreliability to continue impact.
As some have said the latest fitness problem sounds grim for the lad.

eager? its been six years with Lamela. However you slice it he's a disappointment for 25+ million euros (2013 prices). its not his fault he's injured and I wish him well but we lost on that bet. time to move on.
