Listen, the stereotype is people like you. I can't remember anyone on SC, my mates or at the stadium calling a player stupid cos they black. I have heard blatantly racist shit at WHL but never that. I suggest we draw a line under this topic now.

I don't wanna restart the argument because it's clear we disagree so I'm not trying to persuade you of anything here, but I just got back from the game and noticed this post and want to clarify for the 3rd time in this thread, this is NOT what I'm saying.

Reread my posts if you're still confused and disagree with me all you want, I don't care, but don't consistently misrepresent what I'm saying when I've clarified it numerous times.

Definitely feel it’s just the positions they play. As has been said, if Lamela was a defender making those tackles, he’d be called stupid too. Likewise, if Aurier was a midfielder making those crunching challenges, even if he fucked up he’d still probably be called passionate etc. Vieira, Ince, Drogba etc were all known as passionate amongst other things. I understand the argument that it’s a stereotype thing and not an out and out racist thing but I don’t believe it’s either. Rash decisions are always made worse when it’s a defender making them.

For the record, I like Aurier and think he’ll improve massively next year.

Davies is equally as bad as Aurier and gets nothign but praise. Aurier gave away a stupid penalty that was missed by Juve. Davies gave away a stupid one that was scored.
I’m a big defender of Aurier, but Davies is far, far more reliable right now. There’s no comparison. Davies is incredibly consistent and we don’t give him nearly enough praise.

A lot of right-footed players are absolutely useless with their left. But for whatever reason, when a left-footed player has a poor weak foot, it's this huge sticking point as to why they aren't great. It's such a weird thing to me.

It has nothing to do with him being left footed. It wouldn’t be any better if he was right footed and refused to use his left foot.
Most offensive players at this level are able to do basic things like shooting with their weak foot. It’s a huge sticking point because Lamela is litteraly wasting chances because he can’t do anything with his right foot. It’s not that Lamela has a poor weak foot, it’s that it’s basically non existent and he is not able to compensate for it.

He is one of the most one footed players i have ever seen and it definitely hurts his ability to score goals. People can make as many excuses as they want, but the truth is that his output against Premier League level opposition is poor. And a lot of it is because he can’t finish with his right.

I'm not gonna reply to everyone's posts because it's clear I'm fighting a losing battle.

But there seems to be a lack of understanding as to what "feeding into a stereotype" means.

I'm NOT saying people look at Aurier and say "oh he's black so he's stupid". I'm saying that the centuries of racism, as I've described, subconsciously impact how people interpret events. It's not even particularly their fault, it's just the system we've all been bought up where these ideas exist. And to me that's the only reason I can see that when Aurier dives into tackles he's "stupid" and when Lamela does it he's "passionate", regardless of postition, there's no reason one should be a negative and one positive, if it was just about position people would be marginally annoyed at Lamela but instead it's just flat out praise.

Anyway idc, they're both spurs players so I personally like both of them and believe they both suffer from sometimes not being able to control their passion and too much desire to impress, yes it's worse for Aurier because of position but neither of them is "stupid" and they both need to work on it

There was so much SJWism in that statement that I couldn't help but immediately throwing up after reading it... no offense intended though (y)

The only stereotype I come across is African origin players being stronger and faster, and the Felix syndrome.

Intelligence isn't linked to race, it's linked to education and access to.

What about a big cock? Sorry I may have come into this thread slightly off topic :D

He has scored a few goals for us with his right... just sayin

Interesting that in your argument about the presence of discrimination (even if on an indirect, subconscious level), you choose to make a discriminatory comment. You may say no offence intended, but you’re clearly someone with a decent of intelligence, you must know that this will cause offence and invite a negative reaction.

The whole post was very much tongue in cheek. He called me an SJW and so I called him a "snowflake" because that's another typical insult those kind of people throw at anyone with a social conscience. And then the "no offense intended" was just copying his post in that it said something meant to offend and then said "no offense" after, which obviously is meaningless after you've just tried to insult someone.

None of it is as witty when I have to explain it:(

Ah okay, my bad for being a latecomer to the discussion, if I’d read his then before yours (as I now have) then I’d have kept my nose out of it.

I still can’t believe a professional footballer with the ability Lamela has can be so bad with his weak foot. It’s a huge weakness, he is wasting so many chances because he can’t do anything with his right.

Just today he gets played in for an open shot, but it’s to his right foot so instead of getting a shot off he stops and tries to get it onto his left foot but loses the ball. It’s definitely one of the reasons why he is scoring so few goals.

Maradona was useless with his right foot.

I'm sorry Mate but I disagree. The subconscious influences that you describe clearly exist in our society but you are surely clutching at straws here? People call Aurier "rash", "stupid" etc because he makes rash, stupid tackles in areas that he shouldn't and gives away penalties in big games. He is a defender and should know better. Lamela is an attacking player who throws himself into challenges, sometimes he can be rash, sometimes stupid. Both are clearly very passionate.

The impact on society of hundreds of years of racism are many, it has a profound effect on the lives of people of colour on a daily basis. I'm not sure that it is particularly helpful to throw it about, incorrectly in my opinion, for something so trivial!

Yeah sure... if you want to call social conscience to making the claim that society is subconsciously discriminating black people. I'm sure black people are so grateful that people with "social conscience" keep painting them as victims any chance they have. (y)

Really interesting comments from Ryan Mason on Lamela. He talks about how he loves football and gives 100% in every game.

Lamela's work rate is truly exceptional, even at 6-1 up against Rochdale he chased down every ball and pressed on his own at times. He doesn't have the goal/assist return of our other players, but he is so important to our press.
