It would be silly to let him go this month unless we got a silly offer but will be more than happy to move him on in the summer. I have little to no confidence in him defensively. My heart is in my mouth every time someone is up against him in a 1 on 1.

You can’t tell how someone will react to big situations by training only.

Some will raise thier game and some will go into thier shell when put into high pressure situations. Obviously you can have a educated guess but until in the situation you’ll never know for certain.

Like I said all poch can do is being ready to risk it or not.

I'm sure Poch will have a very good idea though, I'm willing to trust his judgement on this which is what it comes down to. The time to sell Trips and promote KWP will most probably be in the summer, not now.

Real shame he hasn't stepped up. I had high hopes for him from last season. He unfortunately just can't play in a back 5 if the opposition has any kind of pace up against him. He seems to have gone backwards in his defending as well. Shame as he has a great first time cross in him.

Yes that’s what we both agree on, it’s a decision for the summer not now but he’s going to have to make that decision.

I don't think anybody is knee-jerking, a lot of people weren't keen on replacing Walker with Trippier and some have never rated Trippier. I like Trippier and he clearly has a lot of good attributes with his crossing, passing and I think he has good attacking intelligence. Defensively, though - third-rate wingers skin him all the time. I honestly cannot remember a winger not getting past him.

People talk about the Real Madrid game, but in that game our 3 centre backs played so well, there was very little defensive burden on Trippier.

He really is average defensively, and his lack of pace means he can't recover. I would much rather KWP got more chances.

Obviously..... I just don't see anything different happening on the other flank. Davies time and again is also getting killed with the ball played in behind him as he flails back as if he is running in quicksand, and we don't have pages and pages of his thread saying get rid. Maybe it is all because KWP is in the background waiting and people want to see something new, but I am just puzzled by the inconsistency.

I think Trippier is one of those players who Poch knows is no where near the level he needs if he’s building a squad to win leagues and one day a champions league etc, but he’s someone who Poch saw he could develop and improve to a level which isn’t far off as good as you will get in a back up RB.
Longer term once he has settled Aurier will Be first choice and Trippier may get moved on in summer.

Spot on. And also in a back 4 you get exposed 1v1 much mor regularly

It's just the usual backlash, we had to put up with "he provides 0.3 key bollocks per **** which proves we aren't missing Walker" revert to type, where as Davies has only ever really been back up for Rose. Not many arguments there really. It's pretty clear that Trippier (with some qualities) does not give us the same impetus that Walker did. I'd happily see Aurier in the chair for the rest of the season with intermittent appearances from KWP and Tripps given the Spanish Archer.

Cant really disagree with any of that - save for there are plenty on here who actually think Davies is our best LB. Look I don't rate either of them and would replace both, I'd just like to see consistency (I know, I know...) and genuinely puzzled about the difference in opinion considering both flanks look equally shaky in the facets of play that people are solely slamming Trippier for.

Davies hasn't been great, but at least he knows how to defend. Tripper on the other hand looks like a little boy lost. Timid, weak in the tackle, weak 1-on-1 and gets caught out of position. His one attribute is his crossing ability and even that has been scarce recently.

edit: and just to add, I prefer Rose over Davies.

I think KWP is the point. Many believe he has huge potential and he needs game time to get there.

On the left Rose is injured again so replacing him is not an easy option right now.

In a perfect world we would be replacing Davies and Trippier.

See what I am watching I don't see that at all. Davies is frequently caught making a poor choice and getting caught in behind. He's not great one on one defending, and he's pretty timid himself at times. Last night for instance, I think one admittedly decent but ultra last ditch tackle (after being skinned again...) had people thinking he had a decent game, the rest of it, with and without the ball, he was fucking useless.

But maybe this is just me, and Trippier really is playing horrendously worse.... Anyway, this probably isn't the relevant thread so I will say no more.

I agree with you in general terms - Davies was sub-par last night and hasn't been playing particularly well in recent games either. To be honest I think he's ok but not great as a full back and I far prefer Rose in that position. You're right - Trippier is currently playing worse, hence people focusing on him rather than Davies.

He's usually not too bad when it comes to a back three. He gets exposed a lot more though in the 4-2-3-1 and is definitely our weak point when playing that formation.

If you're an opposing manager you immediately want to play a direct left winger and push your left back further forward to pin him back and keep him defending.
