Sorry, but a new contract for Sissoko is completely unacceptable. Effort alone should not be rewarded. The simple fact is he's a terrible footballer.

I thought there was a squad rebuild going on?

He’s gonna be our shooting practice coach.

Is that what you tell to our player of the season last year?

Mature.

But surely we are just preventing ourselves getting in the same situation with Sissoko as we have with Toby and Eriksen etc? Sissoko is a useful squad player to have around.
But we don't have the same level of reliance on Sissoko as we do with Alderweireld and Eriksen.

Just seems a slightly strange deal considering our usual policy of over 30's.

Great news imo

tied down a important player, not only on the pitch but one off it too.

All the players love him, he’s committed to us and who knows maybe get a couple quid for him in a couple of years time.

I think the coaching staff is really confident that he will not regress as a football player in the next two or three seasons... I don't know what to think, but it can be really hard to sell later. But he seems to be a positive presence with the squad, all the players seem to like his presence and he seems to be a nice guy.

You don't need to tell him anything. Just let him carry on as is.

What exactly is the point of this deal? Surely footballing ability comes in to the discussion at some point. Maybe we're starting a tug of war team?

Well deserved. We look weak in midfield when his energy is missing. He is one of the first names on the teamsheet

Perhaps he's being rewarded for his form over the last 18 months. Physically he is a machine so in terms of injury risk, at 30 it's minimal.

Sets an example to others, deliver and you'll be rewarded. From some comments on here it looks like we should discard loyalty and commitment shown from Sissoko, yet quick to complain when it isn't shown by other members of the squad

He's a useful player - brilliant at times last season - and deserved an extension of some kind. 4 years is a bit much, though, and I still don't think we'll ever achieve anything big with him as one of our first choice midfielders. He should be a Fergie-style squad player (O'Shea, Brown, etc) at best.

This is how we've always rewarded players that have had a good season, give them a new contract on improved terms.
With Sissoko's fitness, I've no doubt that he'll still be a force at the ripe old age of 34. Fuck me, it wasn't that long ago that players weren't thought to have reached their peak til 30 and while I understand that the game has changed, it has not changed to the extent that you're past it at 30.

I like this kind of news. He’s a very good squad player when we have everyone fit. He’s a machine, runs through walls for Poch and offers power when finesse isn’t required or working. And he’s a symbol of what hard work and positivity gets you
