Trying to compared Bentaleb to Modric won't bring back Modric. Bentaleb is a different player, although he did play in a deeper, defensive position at Hrvetska. Let Bentaleb be Bentaleb and let him develop his own game - something I am sure the coach-staff does. I can't imagine them going, "Oh, Nabil, to day you looked so much like Modric", or, "Ken [McEvoy[, today it was not your looks that were Balesque."
Besides, I don't want Real M. to come for Nabil

The young midfielder enjoyed a fantastic first full campaign in 2014-15, cementing a place in the first team and forming a regular partnership with fellow Academy graduate Ryan Mason.

Nabil started 25 matches as we finished fifth in the Premier League in a total of 35 appearances in all competitions and played for Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

“I’m really happy with my season but like I’ve said before, I know I can do better,” he said. “I can contribute more offensively, score more goals and do better in my defensive work. I will learn from my mistakes and I won’t make them again.”

Respected by his peers as an outstanding trainer day in, day out, Nabil highlights his work ethic as key to his rise through the Academy and Development Squad to the main stage in the last couple of seasons.

“I remember what got me to the first team in the first place and it was because I worked really hard every day in the Academy and in the Development Squad and if I lose that work ethic, I will lose myself,” he said.

“I can’t afford to do that, it’s what got me here.

“I always want more. You look at the best players in the world, the superstars, and they work really hard every day.

“They are the best in the world yet they work harder than most. That’s what I’m trying to do. I want to improve, I want to learn and I will give my all every day to do that.”

Nabil was one of five Academy graduates to start the Capital One Cup Final at Wembley alongside Ryan, Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Andros Townsend.

He picks the March Wembley final as one of his moments of the season but defeat against Chelsea that day hit hard – and Nabil believes that will drive the players on next term.

“You can’t become a champion in any sport without tasting defeat and disappointment along the way,” he said. “That’s a big thing for me.

“The great basketball player Michael Jordan said ‘I scored 300 points, but I missed 600 to score 300’. It’s a quote I always remember, so when you fall on the floor you get up and use the experience to make you stronger. That’s what this squad will do.”

What a good example he quotes in Michael Jordan. Go and try your damnest to be better every year.

I totally agreed and I am glad he looks to other sports than just football for "inspiraiton".
Air Mike - who, at one time was not a regular in his high school team and was selected only 3rd in the NBA draft (after Sam Bowie, which mad him famous) - was known for spending more time doing extra work in the gym than any of his team-mates even though he was already by far the best in the NBA - and I reckon the best ever NBA player.
Some other qoutes from him:

he needs a chant. Last season me and a few mates were trying to push something simple but effective - (to the tune of brown girl in the ring) Na-bil Benteleb, na, na, na, na, na, Na-bil Bentaleb, NA, na, na, na, na, na
I know its not exactly poetic but its the easy ones that catch on.

Needs a last line though for the "she looks like a sugar in a plum, plum plum" bit. (Weird song come to think of it)

That's not just you reckoning, it's a fact ;). People will throw LeBron into the mix but he is a serial loser, as proved again last week in the finals. Jordan > *

And totally agree with the quote too, no pain no gain.

must be some vindictive pills at that, as soon as I D'oh'ed him, he went and did the same to another one of my posts out of spite.

thanks for all telling us who Viera is, Capt. Obvious. if it was a joke, it wasn't funny.

Hah, Pearl, I just called him out for doing the exactly that to me too (I noted he'd done the same to multiple people), and he threw his toys out his pram, stroppy.

Think you are wrong on the bit highlighted. I'd suggest that Levy is pretty reasonable with player wages, so wouldn't surprise me if Levy were happy to offer say (and its a guess) £40k pw based upon Bentaleb's playing last season and would be happy enough to review the situation at the end of next season or even before.

As I understand it, Kane's people had 3 contract negotiations within the last 12 months - because as soon as one salary level was agred as being appropriate to his playing, Kane got better and better so Levy increased the wages.

I like what you're saying. To the Kane bit, maybe Nabil doesn't think he'll get the same notice and the same amount of ease getting into more negotiations over his salary so he is trying to get paid now.

This kid (Nabil) is going to be massive for us one day, but he needs somebody even better alongside him to learn from, not Ryan Mason. The latter should be relegated to the EL and cups, he's not a top 4 player.

Easy enough to put into the contract that both sides will get together 12 months later to review progress. Doesn't mean a lot and in practice if Bentaleb wanted to walk in 12 months time because the 2 sides were a long way apart again, then he can always ask for a transfer, but putting it in usually makes the player feel more wanted/appreciated etc. However depends on the agent - if he (or she) wants a big payday they may demand a ridiculous salary and not want to know that a 2nd bite of the cherry is available in 12 months time

The only reason Bentaleb is who he is; our various fails at CM signings. If anything, Bentaleb should offer to contribute towards the salary of whichever CM we won't be able to sell this summer.
