We all change our minds? Well, most of us at least.
he played 513 minutes last season, less than six full games. you're going to be changing your mind very often if that's how long it takes to go from one end of the spectrum to the other.
He needs to be loaned out for a season I think.
I'd certainly utilise Bentaleb in the Dembele role before the Dier role. Defensive midfielder he is not - covering gaps and anticipating opposition attacks aren't a strength of his. But utilised beside Dier or Wanyama they wouldn't have to be. I'd be very happy going into next season with Dier and another (Wanyama the name we're seeing most of atm) as options in DM, and Bentaleb being used as the alternative to Dembele.I like him too but i still hold the same reaervations as I always have. In 14/15, he gave the ball away too much, and IMO, was not strong enough in CM. He didnt do much going forward and didnt do much in defense. Him and Mason were just a very weak partnership that mostly everyone overrated because a)neither were Paulinho or Capoue and b)they are HG players. It really shouldnt come as a shock that our best run of form and our best play that year came when Dembele was in the side at the #10 role but played more like a 3rd CM. The play was alot more fluid and we looked much more solid.
So things and opinions cant change?
Classic thfcspurs19. Having entirely too much time on his hands to go back and find posts with the intent on making someone look like an idiot completely forgetting that things change quite a bit in a year so it ends up backfiring completely. A year ago, Bentaleb wasnt being a child wrt his contract like he was only a few months later. A year ago, Bentaleb wasnt busy bitching because he lost his place in the team. A year ago, Bentaleb didnt defy the managers wishes going on int'l duty immediately after retuning to training and proceeding to get injured again.
Try harder next time.
How long do you actually think it takes? I searched posts including 'Bentaleb' from yankspurs, in the knowledge that I would find something amusing- selected the page from the results from about a year ago, found something and then pressed '+ Quote'. It took me 2 minutes. If you don't ever have 2 minutes to spare in your life, then that's a shame.I disagree with your opinion on Bentaleb but the rest of your post is so true. I wish I had as much time on my hands as some posters on this forum who will do anything to prove a point.

This time last year people were probably talking about Dembele leaving because he wasn't up to it and that didn't turn out to bad.
There is a place for Bentaleb in our side, he just needs to knuckle down this summer. He will have pretty much 1 on 1 time in training this summer and should be fit.
I can't believe we would sell him this summer unless he is completely unwilling to work.
Hassle? (Robert Hassle, Mansfield and Barnsley I assume)I think if we have DIer and maybe Wanyama, not being asked to play the holding role next season will help him. At his best he's like a puppy chasing a ball, he needs to be free to get around the pitch and harry and hassle, disrupt the opposition. Being the disciplined holder doesn't suit him.
Bentaleb is worth persisting with mostly because, even if right now he has the most to prove out of Mason, Carroll and himself, he also has the most scope to improve (age and natural gifts). Much like Danny Rose and Lamela, his career is not iredeemable at this stage but it is in the balance.
If we kept him and one of Ball, Mason, Ward, brought in Wanyama and sold Carroll and two of the other three, then Dembele, Dier, Bentaleb, Wanyama and one of the other three makes very good reading for our midfield options. Two more box to box, two more defensive, one utility.
I'm not a big fan but as I said, that could be changed. What I know is that we can't ship out 3 midfielders with first team experience for us, it's too much upheaval. Maximum 2, preferably 1 as far as I'm concerned.
Agreed, except that he's now been in the first team for one year, near it for a second, is capped by England and is in his mid twenties. Based on this, he may (justifiably) feel he could be someone's first choice, whereas Ball or Ward may well be more enthused at the prospect of being fifth choice / utility. Ward is also comfortable at full back and across the AM3 while Ball can also play CB.Would definitely keep Mason. Can be 5th choice MF after nabil, dembele, Dier and another DMF but also cover Alli/eriksen in number 10. Good utility player is our Ryan.

If Mason wanted regular first team football I certainly wouldn't hold it against him but I reckon he'll think he can get a good amount of games. He loves us as well.
Also, it annoys me when people (not you obviously) make out he's been playing with us for years (people did the same with Townsend) Mason has had 1 senior season (a bloody good one for a newbie if I may add) his second was ruined by injury but most on here are happy to cast him aside for some no name who's barely heard of Spurs and grew up supporting Arsenal or something.
