He was horrible but giving him Tanganga as defensive support was cruel.
Which is why I don’t understand why we didn’t play Royal at RCB, he’s a decent defender and his confidence was well up and then he got dropped after a mom performance.
Yes, difference position but ultimately I think if he’s going to stay around I think that’s the best position for him

This is the one where he got done by Barnes.

If you look Maddison drops in to receive and Tanganga belatedly follows Maddison to create space behind.

Porro is a bit too slow and falls for Barnes' dummy.

This is all to do with timing.

For example, Romero would be much closer to Maddison in this situation and would likely have given Porro a signal that he needs to push out right after him. Because Tanganga steps out later, Porro reads it all later.

I missed todays game and stayed very quiet during our pursuit of him because whilst he played well against us, I thought he was very poor defensively on many occasions and was quite lucky not to be punished. so I was not surprised to come on here and see what you guys are saying

it'll be interesting to see how he gets on

Had a fucking disastrous first game in the Prem. Thought he should have come off at HT for his own good, as well as the teams.
Barnes ain't the greatest, but he's quick. And I thought with zero help from Kulu, it was too much to ask for him to come in and start this specific game. Especially without Romero next to him.

Can only get better.

He's been bought for his attacking tributes in the role. OK he can't be shockingly bad defensively but let's see him with Romeo behind him in the week.

Wouldn’t play Spence cos he wasn’t defensively good enough and up to speed with prem and our formation but plays this fella after 2 days of training . His decisions cannot get more bizzare .

Looked small, slow and naive.

Hopefully a blip!

Can’t be possible to sign so many terrible right backs in a row.

He’ll be great, got no doubts. I think I’m going to refrain from judging him in this team too much this season though as he’s going to have a shit show around him other than Romero and our midfield is now going to be poor if Bentancur is out. Couldn’t have been worse circumstances for an attacking wingback yesterday, couldn’t get out of our own half and he had Tanganga as support

We all knew he’s an attacking right back who is better going forward than defending. Which means you need good defenders behind him. sadly he had tanganga and dier.
Think we’ll see a big improvement when romeros back and he’ll be at his best next season when he have an actual defence (hopefully)

I hard start to the league yet still created a great chance for the out of sorts Kulusevski and did cover and stop a great chance for lesta.

One he’ll learn from and be better for it.

Someone should have given him advice about what studs to have in his boots on the highly watered premier league pitches - he was slipping all over the place.

As was Bambi on Ice behind him but that’s standard Tanganga

It was poor, but should have had an assist with the pull back to Kulusevski.

Didn't get much space to move into yesterday, but I still think he will be a good RWB for us.

A home game with a deeper sitting opponent might have been a wiser introduction for him.

He was set up to fail with the dreadful Tanganga next to him and Kulu barely breaking into a jog to help him defensively. Certainly not excusing his performace but saw enough to see he’ll be a positive asset once up to speed with our defensive patterns. It must have been a big eye opener for the pace and intensity of this league.

He is coming back from an illness as well, new team, new league...I think starting in the PL as a defender is always more challenging than as an attacker so benefit of the doubt...but fvck me if Porro is not decent for us we really are jinxed in that RB spot...6 years of failure to replace Walker.
