£39m is not an unreasonable price for a player you expect to slot immediately into the starting XI. That's less than what we paid for Sanchez many years ago. I understand the concern with paying it all in one go, but you can finance it the way Arsenal did with the Pepe transfer. Very disappointing if we don't get this (or an equivalent alternative) done.
It might have been mentioned already and or debunked. If so I apologize, but from what I've read Portuguese release clauses have to be paid by the player and we would therefore have to send money to Porro first which would trigger income tax.
The total sum would then increase to over 50-55m upfront IIRC.

If this is true then it's likely where the issue lies as I imagine we'd prefer to pay Sporting directly but they are refusing out of principle.

Get on with your life then mate.

Us checking in for updates every 5 minutes isn't going to get the deal done any quicker.
No i am going to sit in here for every waking minute waiting for an update about how further away we are to doing the deal thank you very much mate :cautious:

It'll be incredibly disappointing (but not in the least bit surprising) if someone else (it doesn't matter who) swoops in and just pays the release clause while we're twatting about trying to do something clever involving the Edwards sell-on clause.
You clearly haven't been keeping up, or are being very selective about what you are reading/hearing.

Love a good transfer saga. Same old stories repeated everyday with new words. I have a feeling this one gets done at some point. A bit like the Romero deal just kept on going with a new story everyday until it got done.

The fact there are stories constantly linking us, I'll take that as a positive to something going on on behind the scenes. However slow it may be.

Also those saying to pay the release clause and just get it done. Well that could mean we blow our whole budget one 1 player. Release clause does not give you favorable terms of spreading the cost over years, but a lump sum. It's not as easy as just pay the money and get him unfortunately.

Not the first time or the last.

As I understand it (and I don’t recall who or where it was posted) if we used an external third party to pay the release fee, we could then pay that company in instalments.
so sporting get the money in one go, but we can still have a payment plan that suits us (I’m sure it costs us in interest and fees ofc).
But like I said, could be totally wrong
Isn't that just a bank loan?!

If you don't buy right, you buy twice.....or in spurs' case you just keep buying again and again in regards to right backs since selling Walker. Get Porro in please. I want him as a priority for his crossing alone. Him and Perisic as our wing backs are the exact kind of players that will make Contes system work.

Tbh all these journalist tweets are just the same rehashed info again and again. We know we won't sign Porro unless we pay the release clause. That will be the case whether it's January or in the summer. So there is nothing new there. And we wouldn't make him our main RWB target if we weren't prepared to do that.

At this stage i'm more interested to read reports about 1 or 2 of our other RWB leaving. If those reports start picking up pace then I'm 100% certain it will mean Porro will be signed.

Wish I was as confident as you on this piece. Unfortunately we’ve got a fairly consistent history of prioritizing players but only at wholly unrealistic prices and then seeming surprised we can’t get a deal done at the price the selling club would actually do business at.

Were you saying the same when we splurged £60m on a back up forward in the summer?
