Johnstone will be 29 by the end of the season. Only really had one season of note as well. Doesn’t do much for me honestly.

We were linked to England u-21 goalie Etienne Green a month or two back. He looks a talent. Won’t count as homegrown though unfortunately since he’s spent his whole career in France thus far.
Is he really 29 hmm ok mabye not then

He's another signing where you wonder if the scouting was done by watching You Tube. Oh the irony.
Imagine he was just someone Paratici had offered up to him by an agent mate and we needed a no.2. Shame cause he has Champions League pedigree so I thought he might have a bit about him. Been very, very poor in his outings though.

Bit weird as he stated when he came here that he was looking forward to learning from Lloris. He clearly understood his positioning in the hierarchy of goalkeepers.

Anyway, I think this was simply a deal that FP did because he knew the situation and needs to bring a back up GK in on the cheap.

It was an inexpensive punt in time when the club was clearly not spending and FP had limited time.

I really think FP relied heavily on his contacts and the easier deals to do as;

1: He had limited time of knowing what the state of the squad was like, what needed upgrading and who needed selling.
2: The club were never going to fully back Nuno, it was simply an appointment made in desperation. Therefore, any big deals or 'manager's selections' were to going to happen.

He would struggle to get in a league one side. He's absolutely cack. I admire him for how far he's got on such little talent. A cap for Italy...Jesus wept

I guess the signs are all there - why, in retrospect, would Atalanta let their keeper go off on loan, with only an 'optional', for a relatively reasonable fee? (for what we thought we were getting, that is, which is an ex-united youth keeper, of which they seem to generate decent ones)

Was a bit different when we assumed he might be HG.

Did we not have Joe Hart, though?

I'm on in no way a Hart apologist.

Seems a good lad, supportive of the team, can be seen congratulating the hugging the team on full time after matches. Thought he's a well-liked character in the dressing room too. I wouldn't mind him staying and improve his game, still think he's raw and clearly alot can be learnt from Lloris and the coaches if he knuckles down.

But if he wants to leave is totally fine. No loss from us. The loan arrangement was great in that sense.

Seems to be how we work recruitment wise. We definitely don’t seem to scout players properly before taking the plunge, that’s for sure. Gollini is just another example of that. I’m sure he does want to play more but he hasn’t been good enough. We seem to have loads of younger keepers at the club. How about we just try and push one of those through instead.

Agree completely as long as one of the keepers is good enough. The younger keepers seem to have been around for ages and noone seems to have pulled up any trees or got fast tracked to the first team. I think there is a genuine lack of good keepers sadly. Would like to get Henderson truth be told to take over from Lloris in a season or 2 but he won't come for that I suspect.

Alfie looked like a nervous wreck when Jose brought him on in the EL, but I was impressed at how much more confident he looked in the summer. Did really well in Sweden too, from what I saw.

It's a weird loan, but not as weird as Pau Lopez.

When he first came in, he did look confident and looked like he could turn out to be a decent option. but he seems to have gone backwards.

We need Lloris to sign a new contract, the last thing we need now is to be needing a new GK too.

I don't understand why people are so critical of this transfer. He had some great performances in a strong Atalanta team, so we took him loan to assess with an option to buy.

It hasn't worked out for him, but we don't have to exercise that option. We're also now not stuck with a player we'd have to sell or loan at a loss.
