Bit weird as he stated when he came here that he was looking forward to learning from Lloris. He clearly understood his positioning in the hierarchy of goalkeepers.

Anyway, I think this was simply a deal that FP did because he knew the situation and needs to bring a back up GK in on the cheap.

It was an inexpensive punt in time when the club was clearly not spending and FP had limited time.

I really think FP relied heavily on his contacts and the easier deals to do as;

1: He had limited time of knowing what the state of the squad was like, what needed upgrading and who needed selling.
2: The club were never going to fully back Nuno, it was simply an appointment made in desperation. Therefore, any big deals or 'manager's selections' were to going to happen.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised that it was suggested to Gollini that Lloris would be leaving at the end of the season and that he would be taking his place if he performs, which of cause he hasn't.

I think that must have been a factor in the deal, it would make very little sense otherwise.

Indeed.

Seems a popular & charismatic lad, but Imagine shelling out actual money for a backup 'keeper who seems unable to catch or dive.

You would imagine those two things are fairly high on the list of things we were hoping for eh?

Still, he’s funny ??‍♂️

This is when a loan with option to buy works really well.

Yeah FP has already caught a lot of grief with the loan options/obligations but in reality if you don't have to pay for something now, why would you? Things change all the time and in the Summer PG looked to be a pretty good piece of business. He hasn't really settled or got any run of matches, and Conte now is in and wants Hugo for another year or two. Oh well, move on.

We need a back up keeper in this window. Without Lloris for a couple of months top 4 or a trophy is a no go

“Pierluigi returns to Atalanta after making 19 first team appearances for the club. We wish him the best of luck for the future. #ThankYouGolly
Well then. Didn’t realise this would seemingly be so accurate with Forster apparently done.

I'm still convinced this was all part of greasing the Romero transfer wheels. Ciao Gollini

Yeah seems hugely popular with a lot of the group, and sometimes you need those characters(same with Sissoko).

But they need to contribute in some way or its a waste. At least Moussa had his time where he was actually a key player.

Seemed like a wonderful guy. Would’ve been a perfect backup goalie if he actually knew how do do any goalkeeping.

I don’t remember him being particularly bad, but then again I don’t actually remember him playing a game either. The Morecambe game I was there for, think that was him in goal. But it was a shit game so I’ve permanently phased it from memory.

cheers, golli!

Keep him as a player liaison officer. The amount of times you can see him on the bench comforting, joking with and high-fiving our players... it's like he had been part of the squad for years.

Let him go and build his career elsewhere.

Looks a great guy and clearly gets on with the squad, but at his age, he doesn't have the experience to come in for the odd game and perform consistently enough - the mistake he made against Chelsea in the League Cup is proof of this. He could easily be a first choice keeper in Italy like he was at Atalanta.

Worth noting he was likely to be second choice at Atalanta as well this season, seeing as Sportiello took over towards the end of the season and Atalanta chose to spend serious money for a goalkeeper that summer. I think if you are going to be number 2 it is good to learn from other top goalkeepers and coaches. He probably knew Lloris wasn't going to be around for ever as well.

Gollini is considered a relatively talented if inconsistent goalkeeper mind, but it was a strange one, his style doesn't really suit the PL at all. But, I suspect there was some belief that maybe his talent could be developed and maybe develop into a top goalkeeper. He is still relatively young for a goalkeeper. I hasn't worked out, no biggy, we move on, Forster would be a great move, absolute top back up option.

eh? He's a professional goalkeeper, why on earth would he want to be a player liason officer? :ROFLMAO:
