You see clips of him at Fulham and he was at it , direct , skillful and aggressive with the ball . I haven’t seen anything of that with Spurs. Maybe last year just knocked his confidence?
. 5 minutes in To the friendly last week I thought here he is .... then he just disappeared and was on the periphery for the rest of the game . Cirkin was a different matter when he came on .
Hope Ryan kicks on. , come on lad !

I'm a massive Sess fan and felt exactly the same after watching last weeks friendly. I'm hoping that perhaps it'll take him a little while to fully trust his injury again as it was quite bad apparently, and also he probably needs to feel his way back into football and into our team, as he's never really got started at Spurs.

But yes it was the aggression that Cirkin showed, from the moment he came on, that was a slightly worrying contrast when compared to Ryan.

I like Ryan, young, homegrown and hungry.
Future England international. There’s a reason we beat united and now barce are reportedly interested.
He’s young, give the guy a chance. I can see a very good player there. It’s now up to us as a club to develop him and us as fans to support him, this will give him much needed confidence at his age. We always moan about missing out on these up and coming youngsters but now we have one, let’s look after him I say

You can see he’s a very talented player but he comes across as very shy and timid. You just want him to take that extra step into the unknown like Bale did and he never looked back.

No wonder people are disappointed with him if they think he’s supposed to turn into Gareth freaking Bale. :ROFLMAO:

Throwback to Clint Dempsey's Spurs career being killed off with comparison with Rafael van der Vaart.

Maybe those clips were all from his year in the championship? I have a vague memory of his prem year with them being a bit underwhelming?

Thought he was better today, in that he had a bit more aggression about him, more positive in trying to nick the ball and drive forward. Not earth shattering stuff but as mentioned previously, he probably just needs an injury free run of training and then playing 90 mins to get back into the swing of things. The talent is there.

Not worried about Sessegnon when he plays like this - his pace can be imperious, he’s a good pressing player and dribbler, and he looks a threat whenever there’s space. That alone will get him time for us.

I still have questions about his final product and intelligence around the box. He’s not an intricate player, and that can be OK, I’d just like to see more from him in that area.

Agree, looked a bit more confident going forward today.

Amazing what happens when players get game time. He just needs matches.

Whilst I’m still waiting to be convinced he will develop into anything out of this world, there’s still enough there to show that he could become a good player. Can you teach aggression though? I’m not sure, you either have it or you don’t.

You don’t need aggression, just confidence. Look at Bale... he was more concerned about his hair clip falling out than getting stuck in. He then went through a Superman summer regime, came back a beast and never looked back.

A lot of people forget, even though Bale started really well when he first joined, after he got injured, he was pretty average for a couple seasons. Then Redknapp threw him in after Assou-Ekotto’s injury, when he was about 21, and I don’t think anybody expected him to progress like he did.

Agree, Bale and Kane both made a lot of people, myself included, eat a lot of humble pie. Just couldn't see them becoming even half the players they are. Credit to them. Shame on us lol.

I don't think that's what did for Dempsey. They guy could score, particularly important goals. But he was almost 30 and Fulham got the best out of him, and we probably didn't play to his strengths either (mind apart from Bale I'm not sure under AVB anyone was played to their strengths). The reality is playing his back to go, and him losing that yard of pace made him largely ineffective. For Fulham he was effective because of his movement and at running into channels and space. At Spurs, nahhh.

We loaned him out to fulham the season after, and he couldn't replicate his form their either, reminds me a bit of getting Robbie Keane back, the player who left and the player who came back was completely different (with Keane I think it was through a massive loss of confidence, being played out of position and, yes, loosing a yard of pace. He did at least recapture the old Robbie eventually, even though it was in the MLS. Dempsey has never managed to replicate those two magical years at fulham).

I must be missing something here. We bought Dempsey from Fulham & a year later, sold him to MLS who assigned him to Seattle where he actually did pretty damn good.

Not overly sure why we are talking about Clint Dempsey, but he was signed I did not enjoy watching play for us. Decent trier and very professional but just devoid of any skill or imagination.
