How confident can we ever be that another injury isn't around the corner? His time with us doesn't give us much reason for hope in that sense.
I've always been a skeptic when it comes to how much talent he actually has, and I'm not sure why people think he could be a good enough Premier League left back. It's based on absolutely nothing.

The surgery he's undergone is supposed to be providing a "permanent" fix to the issue that's been causing all his hamstring trouble. Time will tell if that's the case or not, of course.

He's always been a player I've really liked, although I don't really know why since he's never done much here. I guess we maybe all have those fringe players that we're rooting for despite the evidence, and he's been that for me.

I hope the surgery provides the permanent fix to his issues that it was supposed to, but even if it does, I think he has a mountain to climb reclaiming his confidence in his body and in his game. Not to mention I think there are some reasonable questions about whether his skill set matches the inverted fullback role. So, I hope he can come back and carve out a role at LB, but I sort of expect it's more likely we're looking to move on from him and Davies over the next year or two.

If he gets over his injuries I wonder if he will get one final chance at LB in this system as an understudy / back-up option to Udogie or if his time is up and we will look to move him on.

I do just wonder with an Ange arm around the shoulder and playing in a more attacking and possession based system could he be useful in that LB or LW role as a squad player, my gut says no and unfortunately he’s just not good enough but I’d be intrigued if he gets one more chance under Ange or not.

Do we have a time frame he will be back?

Haven’t seen anything firm on a timeline but when Perisic went down with injury I do recall an article stating Sessegnon was expected to be back in training in the “coming weeks” or something like that. That’d be about a 3 month timeline which seems reasonable to me. We just have to hope Ange can bring some confidence back to him and the surgery is a real shot at fixing his hamstring issues permanently like it was reported at the time.

I’ve never been keen on ‘last chance saloon’ terminology but I genuinely think if Ange can’t then no one can.

So much work to do here before Ange is even a factor. Needs to stay fit for a while, get confidence in his body, and then we need to work out where he even fits in to our system. Nothing to suggest he's a good enough Premier League left back. Wing back masked some of his deficiencies and he hasn't even excelled there. Could be a good six months before we can make an assessment.

Pretty enthusiastic about having Sess and Gil back soon. 2 young players who I think will fit the system well. They should at least give us better options off the bench. They both need time to get fully up to speed though.

Way too injury prone to even contemplate keeping him
It's all been the same injury -- his hamstring which has now undergone surgical repair (something that probably should have been done ages ago).

Let's see if the surgery fixed the problem. If not then I'd agree we need to get shot of him, but at this stage we've got no idea how his hamstring will respond to the operation.

Be interesting to see how he responds to the Postecoglu coaching. People on here have repeatedly said its a mental problem and lack of confidence that stops him reaching his potential so if the new coach has got people playing without fear surely that must help him.

Yep and he’s still only 23 so will
benefit from the father / arm around the shoulder Ange approach.

He needs to get mentally and physically stronger, my other Q is, is he good enough on the ball considering Ange’s tiki takes style pass and move demands.

That surprised me as I'd swear it feels like he's at least 26!

I'm done predicting things with Sess' hope for the best but I fear he may go on the "available" list come summer, IMHO he needs to do all those things you say and pull up numerous decent trees before summer IMHO.
I don't dislike the fella he's just hella frustrating!

I thought he was absolutely done with us but maybe Ange can help him find something within him to finally push on at Spurs. To be fair it's probably only worth persevering as he is homegrown .

Having being around for as long as he has it always feels like a player is older in perception than they actually are. Also playing first team football at early age with the type of game he plays tends to see players have a couple of frustrating years with injury before finding their feet again.

I have a feeling he's going to surprise a few people.

Ultimately it comes down to Sess or Davies in the current system.. I know which one I'd choose.
