Anyone got any insight as to why the 'mutual termination' of his contract?
I can't imagine there are no (absolutely 0) buyers for him. He is very athletic and can do a job easily at lower level PL clubs.

Because he’s opted not to go to the clubs that have expressed an interest in paying us a fee for him, or the clubs haven’t been able to or refuse to pay the wages that he’s currently on. ?‍♂️

I’m just surprised more players about to enter the final year of their contract (and who their club no longer want) don’t do this to get the move they want or get a large signing on fee.

Any other recent similar examples?

Wasn't anticipating this.

Tempted to applaud the club for basically chucking away a fair few million in player value. I was expecting we'd get circa £10m for him.

(granted we've saved wages, but could have used him?)

I don't think they've chucked away player value, he made clear he was never going to agree a deal with anything on the table hasn't he judging by this conclusion so as soon as a player does that their value is 0 imo.

Usually happens when a club allows a player to go for free or an undisclosed fee.

I think Willian left arsenal under similar terms but the difference was that he had a move lined up before the end of the window.

On Aurier I think he was underrated by our fanbase. He started off a the replacement to Walker and was never going to be the same type of player or a player of the same quality.
But when utilised well he brought a lot of attacking options to our team. He was prone to the odd rash challenge but so is Tanganga but I don't see him catching flak for it (in fact he was credited on here for flying into Sterling after 2 mins).
Good player, better than Doherty

Goodbye Serge, I'll never forget your backwards roll where you let the ball go over your head in your debut vs Dortmund right in front of me.

Edit: I found it:

Oh well. Seems like an underhanded way to fuck spurs and look after himself.

if so, then fuck him.

I for one, will not miss his terrible defending. Absolutely no football brain whatsoever.

Thank fuck.

Now for Ndombele to throw a strop as he has no friends left.
This may be overly optimistic, but I wonder if there’s an argument for the idea that this might force Tanguay to integrate better with the wider squad…? Might even be a deliberate move - it’s possible that Serge has been a ‘bad influence’.

(To be clear, I’m not casting any aspersions- merely speculating.)

Good luck to him. I wasn't a big fan of his, switched off too often and got caught out of position but he worked hard and seemed a good character. He came across well on the AON documentary and was popular with the kids. The way he responded after the tragic death of his brother is remarkable. I wish him well.

Now we will find out that Sissoko and Aurier were a bad influence on Ndombele and he'll come good now :cautious:

Very strange but if was told I was behind Doherty in the pecking order I'd probably retire if I couldn't do what he's done here.

I wonder if the Sissoko, Aurier et Ndombele love triangle really was so strong that Sissoko leaving was what pushed Serge over the edge. Really intrigued to see what becomes of Ndombele now.

At the moment Doherty is behind a CB...

The best investment we could make there is a sports psychologist. Without his mates around him, he may engage in the squad differently.

Although for the youths

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to recruit a mental health and emotional wellbeing manager to focus on helping the academy (boys and girls) with support they may need as they develop at the football club.

Doherty has been playing in Europe, was Serge injured? plus Nuno obviously knows Doherty.

You know the rumoured round the circle "do you want to play for Tottenham?" that Nuno apparently did in one of the intro meetings, I definitely wouldn't put it past Serge to respond with a wise crack that wouldn't go down well.

All the best to him anyway, personally I was a fan.

I just assumed we hadn't seen him play as he wanted to move on.
No point in Nuno playing him.

I thought it was a shit way to go, but I thought he was decent for us.

Blimey, talk about the club desperately wanting him out the door. They obviously didn't want him hanging around for at least another few months.

So long Serge.

Nowhere near as bad as people made him out to be, especially under Jose. Infinitely better player than Doherty and seemingly good mates with everyone in the squad.

Not the best signing we could have made to replace Walker but not a bad player either and I wish him well.

Thought he was decent more often than not.

Strange outcome.

I guess we’ll never fully know the ins and outs……..
