Was very good today although he still nearly cost us a goal near the end by losing the left back out wide

Aurier is the complete opposite of Dele for me. I really like him for almost the whole game and then he has a moment of madness and I hate him for it. Dele on the other hand annoys me for 90 minutes and then has a moment of magic that makes me love him again.

This thread looks weird when he hasn't made a game changing mistake lol Would still like to see Foyth given a chance in the next game.

Watching Alexander Arnold play after Aurier is depressing. Although he had an ok game for him today he’s nowhere near good enough for what we should expect from a Tottenham fullback. We’ve got problems as big in the squad but he’s meant to deliver balls from wide and they certainly aren’t good enough to make up for his poor defending and multiple brain farts.

Trent is a player with natural talent but the key thing imo is Klopp getting his hands on him at a young age and basically turning him into a world class RB.

Aurier is just a dud who whose bad habits had set in after a good number of seasons in France.....simply wasn't coachable when he arrived at us imo. We seem to hang onto these crap type of players for too long while the likes of Liverpool under Klopp quickly identify players who are not up to it and look to move them on. Klopp was quite ruthless with the likes of Benteke, Moreno, Karius etc while we are still persevering with crap like Aurier when it's clear he can't be replied upon.

I generally agree, but would say 'acceptable' rather than 'very good'. Nowhere to be seen when Brighton had that chance in a critical period of the game. One a match of those - and we get at least one with Aurier - is one too many and is the reason why he will always be a liability.
Good assist but overall below average

Still hates how he jogs back when the opposing team is attacking. Shows zero urgency
Agreed
I think he’s getting better and better. He’s never going to be good enough defensively but this season has proved he has infinitely more to offer than Trippier going forward.
He is getting better, but that was from a very low starting point. You're right: he's never going to be good enough defensively. That's kind of important for a defender. As for being better than Trippier going forward: ridiculous.

Think I'll go back and 'winner' this.

I like Aurier but do you not think it is tacticsa that are the cause?

Liverpool play with the intent on creating space for their full backs, it is no coincidence their full backs are always in space. Ours? our full backs are always up against two or three players because our play is so so so so so so so so so slooooooooooooooow.

Aurier has a decent delivery and can score a goal or two but right now our shoddy tactics are not conducive to bringing the best out of players including Aurier.

Can someone please convert him into a holding midfielder/winger. His defensive lunges are of an academy stage.

He’ll still have bad games but I’m not convinced addressing his position is as urgent as the midfield is now.

Trippier was one of the best right backs around for getting forward so a not so reasonable statement there lol.

At this point it's tough to compare any RB to TAA. He's the best RB in the world right now IMO and he's still only 21. I do think Aurier is worth keeping around, he's proven he can do a job for us - however I think we should definitely be looking to sign someone better over the next two windows. His mental lapses have been costly in big matches this season.

And to add insult to injury both Liverpool's FB's (who are leagues ahead of ours going forward) are MILES better defensively!
TTA and AR had a few key moments in the first half today that were just very solid moments, covering for CB's or CM's.

There are 2 things that I am truly baffled about from both Poch and Jose:

1. Even accounting for injuries, why hasn't GLC got more time on the pitch this season...particularly with CE being largely out of form and ready to leave the club
2. What on earth have Foyth and KWP done to deserve getting so little time on the pitch when compared to Aurier

Desperately hoping that a few offers come in this January for a few players. In a way, some sales might be needed to force Jose's hand.
Would love to see an offer acceptable to Danny come in for Aurier.
Would also be fine if we got a good offer for Sissoko....for the record think he has done a very good job the last season or so BUT just don't see him being part of a Jose side long term so need to make a move away.
Eriksen leaves on a nominal fee.

I can’t help but think that if we want to play this lopsided overloaded formation, backing Aurier is the complete wrong call. We should be playing Sessegnon (who has far more end product and is our future) and Foyth.

Surprised at all the positivity as I thought he was garbage - not as bad as he was against Chelsea but still bad.

He can't jump correctly for his headers, he's out of position, he jogs back which mean others have to cover for him, his awareness of what's going on around him is poor and he switches off - other than that he's great!

Now, this may well be Jose's tactics and he's told him to wander about the place in which case I apologise to Serge but even so he's not good enough offensively to counteract the negativity of his defensive problems.

Personally I'd be looking to invest in the future by giving time to KWP or Foyth but I suspect Jose is more worried about the short term.
